Have a 1968 327/350hp )double hump heads with 2.02 intake valves. Has the “special” oil pan. Question is what is oil capacity without filter? Seeing conflicting results - some say 5 others say 6. Also, what is the length of the dipstick from the bottom of the cap to the tip? I don’t have one and nobody seems to know what is right for this application?
let's see a sharp pic of a chamber; nearest outboard edge of chamber, But adjacent to 2.02" valve edge.
Those heads also came with OE 1.94" valves; but were often Upfitted later w/ 2.02".
When OE, the 2.02" valve heads were fly-cut near that edge to "Unshroud" the larger valve. In doing so, the 64cc chamber typically gained about 2cc more volume.
Many times, when upfitted from 1.94 to 2.02, the local shops failed to fly-cut the chambers.
The 327/350 (L79) should be a 5qt oil pan plus more for the filter. The '68 GM specs doc has an error here in that it doesn't add 1qt for a filter but the other engines do.
The same dip stick length ("gage" in GM-speak) was used for all 327 and 350 engines - #3862730 from '65 to '74. I don't have one to measure, but since they're so common across 9 years, it shouldn't be difficult to get a measurement from someone here.
I attached a pdf of the '68 specs doc from GM. These are free downloads from GM Heritage.
