The generator on my 1960 isn't working and I am looking for a source I can take it to or ship it to for rebuilding. I live in the St Louis MO area. I did find a listing on EBAY for a guy named Mike in Rockford IL under the listing name "screens and roofs" and the seller name '12477chevy'. Has anyone used this guy for a rebuild and would recommend using him?
There is nothing special about your generator except the tach drive assy - and even that was used on farm tractors !
You should be able to find all kinds of generator starter re-builders LOCALLY - this is not rocket science or some kind of voodoo.
More likely could be your regulator that is not working properly and needs servicing and adjusting - ditto for above "comments"
Just make sure the place has been in business for a while - most of them have.
They have worked on many units very similar to yours used on farm tractors etc

The only thing I would add to this is if your generator is original to the car, be sure to tell them you want your original generator rebuilt...if you don't, they might just give you back a rebuilt unit off the shelf...just an FYI.
There is a fairly good probability that there is nothing wrong with your generator and that the fault lies with your regulator. You could send your generator off only to find that you have the same problem. I would disconnect the 'F' (field) terminal at the regulator and connect a jumper from the field wire to ground and see if it starts charging. If so then it's the regulator that's bad and you can replace it or have the regulator rebuilt as well but in any event you should do the check first. Don't rev the engine too high while the ground jumper is in place and I would make sure that the radio is off because the voltage is now unregulated.

It looks like Broner Generator on S. Broadway is still in business in STL. Theyve been there forever and should be familiar with C1 generators I used them a couple of times back in the day but I've been in Ohio for 50+ yeras now.

I agree that any good auto electric shop should easily be able to handle a rebuild of your generator. I also agree with acstephenson's remark concerning checking your voltage regulator as well. I have the original generator on my '62 rebuilt about every 7-8 years or so. It's not that big a deal - pretty much routine maintenance for these cars. You should not have to send it out.
