Default Insurance

Thinking about changing my car insurance to the one that the museum offers. Please advise pros and cons about the insurance. They quoted me half of what I am paying now. Thanks for the info.

Mileage is limited from NCM. They told me they don't insure daily drivers, or high annual miles.
If you drive your Vette daily to the grocery store daily or other crowded shopping centers, this is not the right plan for you.

We are on the same page there, the crowded grocery store parking lot is the last place I want to go in the Vette.
Home Depot yes, I wash my car then drive 5 miles to Home D and park on the outer edge of the lot and finish drying there.
Most of my miles are cruising mountain canyon roads.

When I talked to the NCM agent, my driving style fit into their description, so it is a good fit.

Same impression as others on NCM - designed for the non-daily driver, with some limits on mileage per year, and a very good rate. I've used them for my last 2 Vettes over the last year and half. They have been very easy to work with. The only question I can't answer is how they are when you have a claim since I have not had one.

I dont daily drive my Z. I usually use Grundy insurance. However, last year at this time, their system was down for quite some time. The car was sitting in my garage uninsured, unregistered. I searched around for another carrier. I ended up with NCM insurance. They subbed out the insurance to American Modern Insurance. They started me out at a good rate. I recently got my renewal, they jacked it up nearly $500. No claims, no issues, no over mileage. I am going back to Grundy . Process is in the works now. Grundy may do the same next year. For now, I got better coverage (less deductibles) for a lower premium.

NCM is an insurance agency they do not "sub out" the insurance...they do not take the insurance risk...they place the insurance in American Modern Insurance which is a company owned by a giant German insurance company - Munich Re and are paid a commission by AM on every policy.
I don't know if they have other insurance markets for a corvette that is a more frequently used vehicle like a daily driver.
They have a good reputation for handling claims.
I left NCM and currently use ERIE Insurance company for my two daily drivers and the C8. Features I found attractive were: price lock for three years ( at least in my state), no useage restrictions except for the normal "racing" exclusions, annual policy vs. 6 months and an "agreed value" type coverage for newer corvettes..

For my situation NCM was only slightly cheaper than State Farm and yes, limited mileage. Our club had Hagerty present and looked great, as no mileage limit and salesman claimed agreed value even on newer Vettes. The reality when quoted was, Hagerty acted like others, unless you wanted to pay more for agreed value.......quite a bit more. In the end as we drive year round in AZ, I opted to stay with State Farm. Every couple years I review my insurance, but after 45 years and multi car, bundled insurance I have found only a few that saved any $$$ and it was minimal. The other negative is when you switch companies you are treated as a new customer and thus more prone to being dropped on a mishap. I regularly look at raising deductible and take more personal liability if the rates warrant it. The last time I upped, the break even was only 2 years, so no brainer really.

Semantics. NCM acts as an insurance agent selling policies for an insurance company and they do change what insurance company they rep from time to time. For some they may have a good deal but not for all.

I looked into them a couple of years ago and decided not to go with them due to their "pleasure only" restriction. As others have said, they don't cover purposeful trips such as going to the store, the barber, golf course, etc. At the time they were cheaper than what I was paying but I have since found a lower rate for my cars and house.

I tried NCM when we first took delivery of the Z. Their price was 3x's higher than I am getting from Travelers ($1,650/yr). I have pretty high coverage limits with $0 deductibles and I guess NCM didn't like that.

I think that definition is open to debate. Every time I drive my car it is a pleasure trip, regardless of the destination.

I wound up with Hagerty. I had emailed NCM with how I use my car. My wife and I are retired and have other vehicles. But I do use my Corvette for running errands, shopping trips, doctor appointments, etc. and only put about 4K miles a year on it NCM said they would classify that as a daily driver.

From Hagerty's website:
"Our program policy allows the collector vehicle to be used for club functions, exhibitions, organized meets, tours and leisure use, including occasional pleasure driving — it just can't be a daily driver."
https://www.hagerty.com/insurance/cl...ehicle-qualify

From Progressive's website:
"Pleasure driving
If you only drive your car for occasional pleasure, you should choose "pleasure" as your primary use when getting a quote. For example:

You run personal errands
You take a seasonal or weekend day trip
You drive occasionally (e.g., retired or work remotely)
You drive a classic or sports car to an event"

The only debate will be when they refuse to pay.

Dealing with NCM is a joy. You actually talk to a human being. And who can’t appreciate them playing Fast Car during a hold? And I like the idea of having an agreed upon value upfront.

I called NCM to ask a question, "Your carrier is American Modern" What do you mean carrier, I thought I was buying insurance from NCM.
Why don't I just deal with American Modern?
I don't get insurance companies, it felt like bait and switch, but that's how they all operate. Same issue on my home insurance, the policy came from a different company.

As long as they pay when you need them, that is what counts. BTW I recently had a claim with Progressive on wife's car. They were awesome, paid a fair price.

I'm with Haggerty, $0 deductible, purchase value, for $1500 per year. I have a 2024 HTC, My C7 Vert was $1100. I may add a deductible as I might be paying an extra $500 a year to not have one.
