My '66 with A/C. If I lower the steering column and pull the instrument cluster out a few inches, will I have enough room to unscrew the tach cable?
The only other possibility is removing the A/C duct under the dash and try to unscrew it from the bottom.
What have others done to change the tach cable without removing the steering column and completely removing the cluster?
Pick up four 1/4 by 20 X 3" carriage bolts. replace the mounting screws with the bolts and slide the cluster back. That should give you enough room to change out the cable. Keep an eye on the oil pressure line. Good luck. Jerry
Just take the AC duct out reach up and unscrew it and take the cable out, it’s tight. No need to take the instrument cluster out and you would have to take the air duct out anyway to drop the steering column.
