Default Trunk/Frunk Closure

Best Memorial Day weekend greetings to all,

I took delivery of my 2026 C8 SR HTC 2LT Feb 20th. One of the annoying things is how hard you have to slam the trunks to get the auto-close function to operate. Currently, I grab the inner moldings and pull down hard with 90% success rate, but it seems harsh. When that doesn't work, I pull out my shirt and use it to avoid fingerprints... I spent ~$7K on PPF and ceramic coating, so I REALLY try to keep it pristine. How do you long-term vette owners deal with this on the C8???

My car was that way when new but a few months later it worked as advertised. I think the struts were too stiff at first.

I set my frunk down gently until it touches the latch. Then I push the frunk down until it “clicks”, it beeps and then it pulls the hood down all the way. Same for the rear trunk on my HTC.

Yeah - I don't think slamming the trunk or frunk lid down is the trick. Just close and push down a little on the lid and the automatic closure will take over to complete the close.

I have a 2021 without the auto close frunk, but must still push down to close the frunk. How do I deal with it? I use my bare hands, and don't give it another thought. However, I do keep a couple of microfiber towels in my glove box. If I did worry about it, I would just use one of those towels and wipe it off a bit. I also keep a very very small 1 oz micro-sprayer in the car that I have filled with Griots Best of Show Detailer. So if I was really worried about it, I would use a spritz of that and then wipe with the towel.

I would not use my shirt or any towel of opportunity. Rather leave the "handprint" to the extent that there is one.

The frunk seems to be a little more problem with closing than the rear truck lid, in my experience. But I found the secret about getting the frunk to close easily and quickly. When you open the fruck I believe there's a timer while its open. So when you are ready to close it, go to the drivers side door and see the switches for both the frunk and the truck. With your key in your pocket, push the "close" portion of the fruck switch and then walk over and gently close the frunk lid and then gently push the lid down that remaining 1.5". Works like a dream, every time. Just be sure you do it immediately after you push the switch...less than 30 seconds.

Take it to the Dealer. It shouldn't be that hard to close. I just lower both of them till they touch and give them a slight push down and the car does the rest. You shouldn't have to slam either to get them to close.

There is definitely a timer on the Frunk .. I assume because they figure people leave it open or unlatched while the charger is plugged in. The trick to the Frunk is if it's been open a while is to push the release button again to wake it up .. then it shuts after that no problem. I don't slam to trunk or frunk .. close it and give it a slight push and it pulls closed. Worked the same way on my 2024 and 2025 ...

2025 coupe. The frunk I just let drop on the latch and it closes automatically. The trunk I pull down with enough force using the hand slot on the underside to give it enough momentum to engage the latch and in closes. Occasionally if it was too light I use the heel of the the palm of my hand to press down on the Stingray emblem to get it to catch and close.
