I have a C6 2006 base model with 84K miles that runs great with one major issue, the fuel gauge does not work. My local mechanic has diagnosed the issue as one of the fuel sensors are failing (or both). I understand that there are two gas tanks each with their own sensor. We cannot determine which sensor is bad, so we need to replace both. I understand this is a big job as many items need to be removed to get to the fuel tanks. However, my mechanic is telling me that after 2006, the sensors were changed and he cannot find the parts and has called many places ever Detroit. My check engine light is always on, and I relay on the trip monitor and fill the tank after 150 miles. Can anyone help me find the required fuel sensors? I will update this post with the exact part numbers once I get them. I have tried using fuel add ins and 94 octane but it has not helped. Please advise. Thanks!
Failed level sensors should trigger a DTC. The code will show you which tank....primary (left) and secondary (right). Most common code is P2068...the right, passenger tank sensor fails more often as it is the one not submerged in gas when you have "1/2 tank" of fuel or less. Deposits form on the dry sensor causing erratic behavior.
Search "service fuel system" on this forum for more than you care to read on this known issue.
THIS THREAD has part number info. It is correct that you can't use 2007+ level sensors as the ohm resistance readings were reversed for that year forward.
Yes, the fuel level sensor is the likely culprit.
Check the DTC codes.
I had the P0268 code that C6toGo was discussing.
The Fuel Guage would work very intermittently and was constantly sending messages across the DIC and HUD.
I was able to buy the Delphi parts from Rock Auto a few months ago, and just installed them yesterday.
Due to the labor involved I highly recommend replacing the fuel modules on both sides even if only one is being reported bad.
Also...while I was able to buy the fuel pump/ sending unit modules, the crossover and in tank lines are not available. These pieces can be damaged during the replacement process, so I suggest that you have an experienced technician make the repairs.
