Default C5 cooling fan relay sticks

Sticky Fan2 relay which will unstick when tapped. Is this a sensor issue as I replaced the relay already?

The cooling relay's are turned on/off by the PCM grounding the control signal CKT 473.
Due to long time use these relays ca be stuck due high current through the contact set .
I guess a new relay will solve the problem

Thanks for the quick response. Actually a new relay only fixed problem for two days. Would the temperture sensor be next to replace? Or is it something I'll have to take to shop?
Thanks again for your suggestion.

If you have no electrical skills and instead of just replacing parts take the car to your friendly auto electric shop in your area...there is no "sensor" in this circuit.

If the relay contacts open when the relay is tapped, it is likely not a "sensor" or relay-control issue.

Note that Cooling Fan Relays 2 and 3 are both operated by a single PCM output. So a PCM-control issue should affect both relays.

Makes sense, but if only one relay is having a problem (my case), then what? And that should rule out the PCM, right?

Then you need to troubleshoo the signal of the relays just like I did on a 98 car som years ago😊

Better to provide a clear explanation of what the problem is, and what you mean by "unsticks".

Lucky: The high speed fan on pass side runs with key off after being driven more than 10 miles in 88 degree ambient. The relay suspected is second one from side of under hood fuse box. It's marked 43 on Location Layout and titled Cooling Fan 2. If I tap it or remove it the fan shuts off. Reinsert and stays off. Assuming a sticky relay, I replaced relay with new and problem returns under same conditions.
I looked at schematic sent by earlier responder and noted that in the 02 Vette, there are 3 Cooling Fan relays not just 2. All appear to be same. I was temped to swap relays to determine if it was a relay problem, but wanted to get some feedback first.
Thanks for your time and remarks.

Yes, there is no problem swapping that relay with the other two relays that are part of the cooling fan control circuit.

First things first. Is your cooling system opererating normally, maintaining operating temperature, and when are the cooling fans turning on? Do both fans run, or only one ?

Sounds like you are confused about how the fans operate. The fans run together in low speed, and together in high speed. What is the indicated ECT before you shut down the engine? The PCM will run the fans at low speed after the ignition is turned off if the ECT exceeds 284 degrees F.

Guages appear normal, temp gets to 220 in town and back to 205 at any speed over about 30.
I'm not sure of which fans run when so I have some more work to do. I'll get back to you. Thanks for the info.

Actually don't think that will work as one of the relays is 5 prong. But I can swap the two next to each other.
More testing to do. Thanks.

I had this strange sense of deja vu, like I had already explained this to you before. Sure enough.

To me it looks like you have some connection problem with your relay socket .

If you temporay use a relay extenion block like I use on my fuelrelay in this photo you can monitor voltages on all relay terminals while you do some testing

Lucky, how right you are! you helped me last summer when I was having the overheating issues. After resetting the HPTuner to the OE settings, and verifying the condition of the radiator space, the cooling system started working more or less correctly. The over heating was gone. No issues until this recent problem of sticking relays. Another member suggested looking at the actual socket in the fuse box. Got a point there that I hadn't explored. Easy to check in am. In addition I'm going to do a more complete testing of the conditions when this occurs. Maybe better details can narrow down this new problem.
Thanks for your reminder. Jim
