Default Eternal struggle with my arm rest pull handle screw???

Hey all and Happy Memorial Day
Well my eternal struggle with my 78 door handle pull has emerged again???
I've had the upper portion parts replaced more times than I can remember but the long mount screw always seems to back out even though 95% of the time I usually lower the drivers side window to close the door!!!
Is there any real fix to this problem??
My gut instinct tells me to use "Lock-Tight"????????

Perhaps something like a license plate mount plastic nut insert? Or something similar?

No direct experience with this as my door panels don't have the same armrest setup.

Is it this bracket & screw hole that keeps loosening up? Looks like the screw is supposed to be self-threading. I'd try flattening the portion that gets pushed out the back to squish the metal back into the hole. Is the screw a coarse thread trim screw or a machine thread? If machine thread, maybe a small nutsert sort of thing?

Prior post is what you need to do. I ran into this on my 78. Take some pliers and squish the metal flatter so screw gets a better grip.

As RickM says, I had a similar issue. When I took the door panel off it was easy to see that the metal had pulled out, allowing the screw to come loose. I straightened the metal around the hole and that has done the trick. The original screws do have a fairly course thread, and i assume you are using those?

It's a few years sine I looked under the door panel, but I'm guessing if the hole is badly distorted it would not be har to pop rivet a small section of steel over the top?

I installed a fine-thread rice nut in place of the troublesome screw hole. The machine screw stays tight against a flat washer and lock washer.

This is what I used. I think they are called speedi nuts, but not sure. Any hardware store should have an assortment of sizes Could this be MR Doorguners ICE NUT?They worked perfectly.

If your screw hole is just stripped or elongated, you can hook a straightened paper clip through the hole and that might tighten it up enough to hold it. This worked for mine about 10 years ago and that paper clip is still holding.
