I just replaced my alternator with an aftermarket 200 AMP JS alternator and my "service charging system" light comes on but the alternator is charging properly . Anyone have this happen to them. I was deciding between a Mechman and JS and decided on JS.
mine would come on every now and then after replacing with a vatozone unit then earlier this year bought a brand new Mechman and problem solved no more issues
I’ve heard of this happening when an alternator designed to operate in a c5 is swapped into a c6. While the wiring harness may plug into it, the c5 uses a different control strategy than the PWM signal that the c6 uses. The result is the message that you are seeing and some basic level of charging (maybe).

Low idle rpm, right where you need the charge sitting in traffic with the A/c on.
I was researching the 240 Mechman and that requires raising idle speed to 850 or so rpm.
Hot rod parts that do not fit exact, such as the post carrying battery cable is sometimes clocked wrong with it near exhaust.
I still have the original 145 amp alternator, nothing great and comes up short for alot of slow cruising.
I'm looking for maybe 170 amp Mechman that charges correctly at stock idle speeds. Alot of money though.

Lot of money but worth it. I used to put my vette on a charger every two weeks to top it off, I no longer have to do that ever again because when I go Sunday cruising it completely tops it off, even sitting at lights. That convenince is worth the money rather than worrying about my battery all the time.
