Default Information on Rag Joints

Hello everyone. I am starting this thread to aggregate some information on rag joints and steering shafts and hopefully make it easier for the next person searching for it. My car is a '92 LT1. Everything below should apply to all '92-'96, unless there are differences with LT4 and LT5 cars that I'm unaware of.

- From what I can tell nobody makes replacement or remanufactured steering intermediate shafts for there cars. I have also not been able to find individual parts (rag joint, u-joint, etc) marketed as compatible with a C4 Corvette.

- Dorman Steering Shaft Coupler (31002) is not a C4-specific kit, but does contain a rag joint disc that is a perfect match for the original '92-'96 rag joint. The hardware in the kit (other than the disc) is not useful for a Corvette.

- Unbalanced engineering makes a rag joint eliminator/delete kit that is said to fit Corvette steering shafts with minor modifications. There are several threads about this.

I am trying to restore my car to as close to stock as possible, so I recently replaced my worn rag joint with the disc from the Dorman kit and saw a big improvement in steering quality. Unfortunately it is not a direct bolt-on replacement because the original rag joint is riveted into the u-joint, so the rivets must be removed and replaced with appropriate hardware.

If anyone wants more information on how to replace the rag joint, I'm happy to share more from my repair.
