Thanks again to all those who have discovered and created fixes for the various challenges that crop up on older complicated cars like ours and took the time to share the knowledge here to the benefit of us all!

As a result of the knowledge available here and “over there” where many folks also spend time, I have been able to learn about and address many items with confidence. Things like all of the different oil leaks, she is dry now, all the grounds, stereo, vacuum leaks, slave cyl, wheel bearing hub assemblies, u joints etc. etc… All very satisfying. Yes as many have said, you can easily remove all shafts by yourself without disconnecting anything else. Just waiting on new strap kits for half shafts. What I can share in return. One Prop shaft u joint cup almost fell out on the bench, indicating a wogged out yoke, a large contribution to the vibration that precipitated updating stuff. Had a machine shop replace the yoke and balance the shaft, 3 days including part delivery cross country, $900 CDN. So parts are available should anyone run into this wear item. No new or NOS shafts that I could find and a used one would need to be trued up at the very least so best path for my situation and perhaps your, was repair. One other item, we went for a drive a couple weeks ago and the car fired up, warmed it up, down the driveway, a couple hundred yards and it went very rough with wildly erratic throttle response, bucking and smoking, dash lights flashing in and and so on. Made it back into the garage, stalled and smoke poured out the exhaust. Ok this is new. Spent quite a bit of time on the forums looking for solutions, no similar symptoms except ground issues, went over all grounds, thank you, no change, would fire up but very rough running. Some forum discussions pointed towards bad ecm. Oh ohh. While looking things over it occurred to me to swap back to the factory mem cal from Marks standard upgrade unit installed last year. Quick swap and it ran perfectly, better than I recall. Weird. Contacted Mark and he said the symptoms indicate it’s likely a loose mem cal chip. Swap em back, snap it in, back in biz again, better than I recall. Not sure how I did not have it secured properly with the way the clips work but there you have it. It must have been working its way out and contributing to just a hair under perfect performance. Mark also suggested to use dielectric grease to ensure a nice clean fit. What a resource Mark is! Speaking of performance, obviously many of you spend time on bat where once again you can often pick up a lot of valuable information and noticed the white / white salvage titled Z sell recently. Love the white interior. Watching the acceleration video I couldn’t help notice some pretty rapid rpm gains, like very rapid. So I have to ask is this “ normal “ in your experience for a stock set up? While I don’t beat on the car, I do drive it and Mark once told me that with brand new Michelins if you mash it above 4000 rpm it should rev out within 11/2 seconds or so and tires should break loose. Once she is all buttoned up I will give this a go but normal fun driving I did not feel as tho this would be the case but it will report back. Yes verified secondaries are functioning correctly as learned here. Loose mem cal, seized ujoints bad wheel bearings and so on will now be out of the equation. Lastly a shout out to ZR1 ECM Peter. I contacted him regarding repairing my ecm if it was the issue and he was a total pro, and very quick to respond with all the right questions and answers so if you have ecm concerns he is yet another valuable resource we can rely on.
