Default Manually updating Google maps question

The factory Google maps hasn't been working for awhile and no firmware updates are due. I'm following the manual update instructions and it says for a soft reset to press and hold the End Call (Hang Up) button on the steering wheel for 15 to 30 secs until the screen goes blank and restarts. This didn't work. The next option is to go into the Google maps settings and scroll to the bottom until you find the About & Help section and tap the version number. When I do this, it keeps saying Google Play Try Again. Any other options?

From the 2024 OM...
Internet Connectivity
Google Maps relies on a subscription data
plan for full functionality, including
availability of offline maps.

I guess this implies an OnStar plan, or other data plan via a phone set up as a wifi hotspot with connection to the car's wifi.

I called OnStar and they remotely fixed the problem.

Was it something another owner could do (DIY) if necessary? Or did they not explain it?

GM with their effort to charge for features in 2024 STOPPED providing a NAV SC Card. Had to have a subscription to OnStar! Turned out ONLY for 2024 they provided a FREE "best OnStar package" (~60/mo) BUT for only 30 days IF you signed up! I signed up ONLY for 30 days and ONLY when over discovered my road speed was no longer showing in HUD or dash! I was upset as had no desire to pay for OnStar. My 7th Vette and never had! I complained often on the Forum. I was using WAZ for NAV BUT no road speed limit showing. Fortunately a member helped me thru a FREE download of Google Maps as a one time remembered in the car for the area I drive. Took ~2 hour effort to get NE SC and SE NC. Has worked find for 28 months!

GM smarten-up in 2025 and later and give you several years on lowest level OnStar (~10/mo) free, which provides maps and allows road speed to show in Dash and HUD. BTW I called OnStar to see if i could get what was offered for 2025 and later. She checked with her supervisor who said NOPE it was built into the 2025 and later year car pricing. So my 2024 $225,000 E-Ray gets nothing after that 30 days! I'll have to wait for my 2027 GSX!
