Has old radials on it white walls but I'm having a slight wander problem. I've replaced the steering box gears all front end parts as needed The only thing left is the old white walls. Probably 30 years old and I think are causing a slight wander. Fine on the Interstate but as soon as I hit some back roads the car wants to wander.
I'd love to get some white walls but I know they're gonna be expensive i'm sure there's a method of knowing how strong the side walls are. Maybe there's a measurement? It's a white C1 1962 I just wonder what they look like with black walls does anyone have a picture of one with black walls on a white C one. Appreciate the help

Great looking car and I'll have to say that the car would look best with white walls.
I do know that there is a limited choice for these.
I'll also have ti say that I would not think that driving around on 30 year old tires may not be the safest thing, especially at interstate speeds.
I’m in a similar situation- looking to replace my 12 year old radials. Whitewalls at a reasonable price are getting scarce. I thought about blackwalls as well, but got severely outvoted. Not looking for the period correct wide whites, just a decent sporty look.

Figured that.
Just wanted to make sure as no one would want anything bad to happen to such a great looking vehicle.
From other threads it looks like a lot of the guys think highly of Dimond Back tires. Maybe try and search Tire Rack for a WW in your size.
Again, great looking car
I'm trying to do some research now, The question between the current size that I have on the call which is 205 75R15 is the size which is proper. Probably the same on yours. There is also a 235 75R15. I'm trying to find a tire with a good sidewall strength because I'm getting a very slight wander at normal speeds on back rows. I've replaced all my front end parts including the steering box replacement kit. Everything is tight and seems very good. But there is a slight wander on the back roads here in Pennsylvania. On the Interstate it's very stable. I think my side walls are worn out and tired from being 30 years old. However the tires look almost new. The name on my tires is very odd i've never heard of it they're called Dimension 4. All season. I can't decipher the age code but it seems like they're probably done with the restoration about 30 years ago Peru yes I agree white walls are the way to go, there are some companies out there which sell white walls at fairly reasonable prices but I don't want to buy a white wall that is weak. Thanks for your input ,,,To reiterate I think that side walls are very important.
Hi there thanks for your input I called tire rack just now and they haven't got a white wall in a 15 inch tire which I thought was very odd. He did give me some advice on a 30 year old tire he said most likely your side walls are very weak. And it definitely is a cause to wander
Just a note to you, The exact car, my friend owns up the road. At a car show last year I stopped at a light with my 62, he forgot which was a brake pedal and which was the clutch and ran into me. My 62 has solid bumpers and he put a little dent on my top lip. It cost me $300 to get it fixed. He on the other hand, because his car does not have bumpers which are connected to the frame the entire front of his car cracked off took us two rolls of duct tape in order to get it back together so he could drive home. The insurance company gave him $12,000 to fix it. He was able to fix it himself. Just word to the wise, make sure you memorize which is a clutch and which is a brake... Your bumper etts are useless PS we both had the same insurance company so there was no problem

First time I've ever heard such a thing and I'm not buying it.
If your car wanders, verify the front tires aren't in a toe-out condition AND that the suspension isn't in a negative caster condition. Either condition will cause the steering to feel unstable.
My '63 rides on 28 YO tires and it does NOT wander.
After 20 years in the tire business.
I just got a set from Coker Tire for the same reason as age. My '60 always ran straight (after I eliminated the slight toe out) but everyone scared me with stories about my 20 year old tires.
