Default C8 Z06 high rev at start

When I crank my new Z06 it seems to rev up high. When the dash illuminates it shows an RPM of 1200 but idles down to 8~900 RPMs. However, before the dash comes up it sounds like the RPMs are much higher than 1200. Is this normal during the new break in period or the supercharged motor?

This is normal. Also, the C8 Z06 does not have forced induction (supercharger, turbo). It is a naturally aspirated engine.

That sound starts my day off with a smile. If you want, learn how to start it in Stealth mode to make it quiet.

Not implying that you don’t like the sound.

It starts up in tour mode with the valves fully open. It quiets down some and settles into an idle around 8-900 rpm. If I know I’m leaving early in the morning I set it to my mode before turning it off in the evening before. It will start in my mode if you do this. Otherwise starts in touring. I have my mode set to stealth for this reason. You can also hold down the start button for 5 seconds without your foot on the brake and change the mode to my mode or weather before starting too.

My garage faces my neighbors house and I hate blasting the neighborhood and them at 0500 in the morning so I also start with garage door closed too if I leave this early. I wish you could default the start up in stealth. I normally go to Z mode a block or so from the house and keep Z mode in exhaust track mode.

How is it possible to spend 6 figures for a car and not know what kind of engine it has? I would want to know the car inside and out with extreme detail before dropping that kind of cash. Plus this thing has been out for a long time by now too. If this were 2022/2023 I could understand, but at this point that is just bizarre.

Maybe the OP meant C7 Z06 and just typo'ed (and posted in the wrong forum lol)? But that wouldn't make sense as he said "new" and "break in".

Interesting first post, for sure. OP hasn't stuck around to see the responses to his question. I think we all knew this motor wasn't supercharged before we bought it. FPC, Naturally aspirated was what made it so appealing.

Chevy bought a 458 to tear and learn the secrets of Ferrari. When an engineer at the shop went to start it, the 458 sprang to life at full throttle until it hit 3,500 rpm, making an ear piercing bark, before settling down to an idle. And then he said "this is the way". Then all of the other engineers in the shop chanted in unison, "this is the way".

I thought stealth mode was only an E-Ray thing, last i researched.

I love the sound of the start up, but this would be beneficial for 430a gym sessions instead of taking my DD.

Any reference materials you can point me to?

Thanks

Two different things.

Z06 stealth is just an exhaust setting that closes the valves on the exhaust. It’s a setting under sound management or I believe starting in weather mode will also keep the valves closed during start.

Possibly true, maybe even likely.

But how does it profit anyone? I could never see the end game.

You can set up My Mode with the quietest "stealth" exhaust setting. As long as you switch over to My Mode before shutting the car off, on the next startup it will still be in My Mode with the quieter exhaust. It isn't silent like the E-Ray but there's a noticeable difference from regular startup and it definitely helps with those really early mornings.

That video shows the setup process.

If you forget to put it in My Mode / Z mode before shutting it off, press start for 5 seconds without pressing the brake to get electronics to turn on. Personally I use Z mode for stealth because the button is on the steering wheel. Then press Z mode (you should hear the exhaust valves shut), then press brake pedal, then press start button again and it will start in stealth mode.

Not sure about this one in particular, but I've seen instances where a bot rolls in, asks some innocuous sounding question and never comes back. Its usually vague enough of an ask to work across multiple forums (like getting a copy of their window sticker) Then a week or so later another brand new account shows up with a reply to the now buried thread with some product or service that is exactly what the first bot needed. In the window sticker example the answer was some random *** car history report site that no one has ever heard of before. Then miraculously the bot OP rolls back in to announce that the site was exactly what they needed. An obvious marketing exercise.

Kind of curious to see where this one goes lol sometimes I think its just about getting some innocent posts in so they can start running scams in the for sale sections.

Yes early, I keep the garage door down and start it in weather mode. The neighbors say they don’t hear it

I personally don’t shut them down anymore on start up. More than a few times the butterfly’s starting making a tinny sound like they were half way caught up or something. It took a few start ups and drives to get rid of it. Was kind of embarrassing going down the road with a tuna can on a string type of sound 😉
