Default Removing power wires to seat motor

My vertical for the front of my driver seat stopped working unless I reached underneath and moved wires around. I took the seat out and found two chaffed wires going to one of the motors of the seat. Only problem is the chafing is about a quarter of an inch from the motor itself and I cannot cut and repair. I’m trying to figure out how to get the wires out of motor completely cause they seem like they are just pushed in. Anybody have a clue how to get these two wires out.

I'm thinking that the wires cannot be removed from the motor. If you can get enough of that 1/4" of wire stripped, then put a shrink tube over the long portion of the wire, then solder to that 1/4" of wire, then slip the shrink tube over the soldered portion and shrink the tube with a heat gun to make a sealed connection.

Thanks for the reply! I just tried to strip it, and it just fell apart. It was only held on by a few strands of wire. I think I’m gonna end up trying to find a motor on eBay, and splice it in. I don’t feel like fooling around with changing frames. You were right,it was two chafed wires.

That's too bad that it happened. Individual motors are not readily available. They typically are sold with the entire frame unfortunately. I would try to get that top motor assembly apart and see if new wires can be replaced inside that assembly if you cant locate a separate motor.
Good Luck

I did check eBay and the only thing to do is buy the whole frame. I think I’ll try and tear it apart. The average price of a frame is about 300.00.

An auto electric shop, like the ones that rebuild alternators and starters, should be able to take care of you.

Good idea! I looked at it more last night, and those wires are pressed in there. Thanks!

I'm no experience with seats but I have a couple of ideas, so take this with a pound of salt. I suspect there's a push in connector on the wire with a prong that engages a lip in the opening. See if you can use something like a jeweler's screwdriver or homemade tool to get in the opening and depress the tab on the end and remove the connector. If you can, you could add some wire and either solder on some additional wire or remove the crimp off the existing end and crimp it onto some new wire. Obviously solder the new wire onto the existing wire and heat shrink the joint.
The other is either joy or 'you're screwed', so try the first suggestion before doing this. Take a piece of heavier single strand wire, flux both ends of the existing wire then put the single strand down the middle of the motor end of the wire. Strip the other end, put a heat shrink cover loosely on the wire and push the strands around the single strand as far as it will go. Solder best you can the wire flowing solder into the broken end, making it whole. Slip the heat shrink up and heat it to cover the joint.
That's all I can come up with at the moment, good luck on your repair.

Ok, I see what you’re saying. I plan on working on it this afternoon. I like your ideas! Many thanks for your input!

Well, I ended up buying another seat frame on eBay. I put the new motor on and I also put a new switch on. Getting too old to be playing like this. But everything works and thanks everybody for your input.

Sometimes ir's easier to just bite the bullet and buy what is needed.
Good to know that you got it fixed.
