Hi, I am brand new to the forum. I am interested in buying a new or slightly used C8 corvette. I owned a C4 coup that I bought new in 2000. Owned the car for 2 years but didn't really like it. It felt big and although it was fast didn't feel nimble. So, this is one of my questions, does the C8 mid-engine feel smaller and easier to drive than the older front engine models? I will probably never track the car but still want something that will corner well and is fun to drive. I'm open to Stingray, Grand Sport or even Z06. I know I probably need front lift but what other options would you guy suggest? Thanks
Welcome to the forum. Fun to drive is off the charts. I've driven a few c4's and the c8 is a completely different experience. You need to test drive a used c8 (they're everywhere now) before making a decision.
To me it feels lighter than it is, corners like a beast, and is the most fun-to-drive car I've ever owned with an auto trans (i'm a manual guy).
My opinions:
Front lift isn't worth it to me but you have to consider where you live. My 23 had front lift and I used it 4 or 5 times in 3 yrs. On my 26 I skipped it for obvious reasons.
Base exhaust is too quiet, NPP not much better; mag ride is a big deal in this forum (many say its a must have) but I've never considered that option.
If you won't be tracking the car skip the z51 package.
The only must haves: 2LT and HTC
The C8 is and feels larger (and heavier) than the C4.
Easier to drive.... Not sure.
Corner well, the C8 absolutely corners better.
Fun to drive is also relative, I really enjoyed my C4. To me driving a slow car fast can be as much or more fun than driving a fast car fast.
The C4 nose clearance was much lower than the C8 and you may not need lift.
To me the 2LT Z51 coupe with mag ride is the perfect combo of price and performance. Mine has lift and the performance exhaust plus GT2 seats and engine appearance package and both roofs but I don't feel those are must haves.

Do you actually mean C5? C4s ran from 1984 to the 1996 models years. C5s from 1997 - 2004.
Yeah, that grabbed me too...
OP, I've driven one C8 so far, and it is a totally different driving experience from any earlier generation.
But, it is going to be much better than your previous one.
Zo6 and I believe the GS are wide body cars. If you're looking for smaller feel go with the Stingray. I don't notice mine feeling any wider than other vehicles.
I have thought about the Z51 package with mag ride. The only issue I have and let me know if I'm wrong is you can't get Z51 without summer tires and since I'm not tracking I want all season tires. Don't want to have to replace tires every 10K miles. However I want flat cornering. Can I get that with mag ride without Z51.

I think that, if you order the car, you can ask for all-seasons (the online configurator allows as much).
And yes, you can get mag ride without Z51 if you simply prefer that.

If you never track the car, and then won't be pushing it that hard, the non-Z51 with Mag Ride will do you extremely well, and corner very flat in sport and track modes.
And, on the opposite side, in touring mode, it will ride super smooth, you will love it.
The two main things you will lose on non-Z51 are the bigger brakes and the electronic limited slip diff, it will just have a normal clutch style limited slip.
But, on a non-track car, neither of those are big deal.
And, yes, on non-Z51 you get all season tires, no option to have those on a Z51 AFAIK.
I have owned C4, C5, C6, and now C8.
C8 is not like anything before. Huge leap in technology, performance, and driving experience.
Totally different car, no comparison. C8 Mid engine and DCT are a game changer.
You no longer have that long hood and small foot space / huge transmission hump.
Indy cars switched to rear engine in 1961. Paddle shifters in 2007.
It just took the automotive industry a few years to catch on.

We currently have a 65 convertible and a C5 coupe - which we bought in 2006, and we previously owned a C3. A friend of mine just let me drive his 2024 C8 Stingray. He encouraged me repeatedly to drive it hard. I will have to say the C8 is what every Corvette since 1953 has wanted to be. It's in a class of it's own for putting the power down, and even the base Stingray has a lot of power. I've had a couple of friends who drag raced their old hot rods. Both of those cars were very powerful, and ran in the 10's in the quarter, but compared to the C8, those cars were like the Flintstonemobile. The C8's are refined, reliable, well balanced and comfortable. It handles as well as any car I've been in. Did I mention those awesome brakes? My friend suggested that I get the front end lift and GT2 seats at a minimum. And the HTC is amazing.
