Default Extended Warranty and Tracking (questions)

This question is in reference to the Chevrolet Protection Plan.

Has anyone "checked the box" on the Registration Page for optional coverage labeled:Optional Professional Services Use Coverage

Paragraph 5.G. on page 6 excludes coverage for

ANY CLAIM IF THE COVERED VEHICLE IS USED FOR
COMPETITIVE DRIVING OR RACING, OR FOR A PROHIBITED
COMMERCIAL PURPOSE, UNLESS YOU HAVE SELECTED
THE OPTIONAL PROFESSIONAL SERVICES USE OR HEAVY
DUTY USE COVERAGE ON THE REGISTRATION PAGE.....

....more importantly, I am interested in any first hand / car owner experience where "competitive driving or racing" came up in the claim conversation or documentation.

Thank you...and more for everyone.

It is my opinion that competetive driving or racing is any TIMED event. That is what is spelled out in the GM warranty. HPDE is not considered competetive driving as it is not a timed event. Time trials on the other hand would be considered competetive driving because it is a timed event. I don't know how autocross fits into this picture as it is a timed event. Powertrain is covered under the 5/60 warranty which is the original GM warranty so engine, transmission, ediff, are all covered by GM. I track a lot and had no problems with an engine replacement and an exhaust replacement. (about $40k) I'm coming up on 36K on my 24 so I'm going to buy the extended warranty with the hope that it is not used. I'm selling the car and going into a 27. My last planned day to drive the car is 12/6. After that I'll try to sell the car privately (with or without the extended warranty), or trade it to the dealer, or sell it to carmax. If the car is sold to a dealership of any kind, I'll get the $ back from the warranty. If sold privately the buyer will have his choice of with or without the GMPP. My biggest concern is the electronics. If the dash or radio goes out that's a big $ repair. If I buy the warranty everything will probably be OK. If I don't some horror not covered by powertrain will occcur at 36100 miles.

OP Did you ask for the price difference if you selected the optional "heavy duty use" box ?

There are a couple of big strings on this and yes, you can find people with claims that were denied. Each one is separate, and how the dealership explains or codes the problem has a lot to do with claim denial. Make sure you have good maintenance records. If you change your oil by yourself keep the oil and filter receipts. Take pictures of the odometer and oil life screen. I keep the old oil filters which I have dated pictures on. I send an oil sample to speeddiagnostics at every oil change. It probably makes the oil change equal the price of a dealership job, but, I have an idea of how the car is doing. I have the dealership do the trans fluid changes. You can add your own records to the maintenance history in My chevrolet. My service advisor told me to dot all the I's and cross all the T's because they look very carefully at these records when powertrain warranty issues come up.
