Default Wires on positive side of coil

I have a '65 roadster with a l75 engine and stock ignition. How many wires are supposed to be connected to the positive side of the coil?
I have 2 connected, 1 being the condenser which the other side of it goes to ground, and one black/pink wire that goes into the engine harness.
I ask because it appears I'm getting no spark with the key in the start position, and normal spark with it in the run position.
I know the 12v on start is supposed to come from the "R" terminal on the starter solenoid. I can't see the solenoid right now because the starter shield is blocking access.

IF the wiring is right, I can think of only 3 things that could cause this:
1. a break in the wire at the "R" terminal
2. A bad solenoid that doesn't provide the 12v on start
3. a bad ignition switch.

Any help would be appreciated!

Jeff

Three:
Wire from ignition switch / ballast resistor - pink? Provides power in the ON position.
Wire from starter R terminal - pink? Provides power in the START position. MISSING?????
Wire from condenser / capacitor for radio suppression. Not needed with resistor plugs and plug wires.

looking at the replacement harness I have, that's what I thought. Based the u connector that attaches to the coil, it looks like it has been recrimped and does not look like the type of connector the other (new) harness has.
I'll pull the starter heat shield and see if anything is connected to the "R" post. If not, I might just run a wire to it and replace the engine harness in the offseason.

If you have a new high torque starter, there may not be a R terminal. The full 12 vdc is provided to the coil from the R terminal during starting when using point type ignition. It may not be needed with an electronic ignition.
Can you find the wire from the ignition switch to the R terminal in your wiring harness or where they come thru the firewall?

Stock ignition, stock starter solenoid, this wire goes from "R" terminal on solenoid into bundle and comes out of bundle and attaches to the coil positive along with the same color wire from one side of the ballast resistor. It is the same electrical point if connected to the side of the ballast resistor that goes to the coil positive, but it sounds like your wire may be missing completely. As you said, running a wire from the R terminal to the coil + would resolve the issue.
