Default Track Day Spec Discussion

Lets discuss build options for track duty:

1) Looks like 2LT gets PDR as standard. 3LT gets PDR and GT2 seats as standard.

2) Z52 Sport with the aero package and center exhaust is $14,500 versus the Z52 Track at $20,700. Assuming CCB still don’t hold up to track duty so best to avoid, hence get the Z52 Sport plus aftermarket track pads.

3) Anyone have experience with the competition seats? I was surprised that Ron Fellows school cars used GT2 seats since in the C7 generation they used the comps. Hate to get them only to find out they aren’t 6 point seat belt friendly and have to put in a race seat anyways.

4) Front end lift, although pricey, seems like a nice to have.

Thoughts? Any options I missed?

I do like the grip of the microfiber steering wheel with gloves.

#2 up above

If you do sport z52 and add the aero you are REQUIRED to add the CCBs as well.

Front lift makes it very hard to change front height, and is also hard to disable if you decide to go full coilovers. I'd definitely avoid it on a track focused car.

Comp seats are not really 6-point friendly. You can mitigate that with Schroth ASM belts, but they are also sitting very tall.

Depending on how much track focus you'd want to have, buying the base GS Z52, and adding your own real aero might make more sense. The aero kits, even in Z07 or ZTK form, are not as aggressive as they should've been..

Yep I agree 100% with that. I got a used 2LT Z51 car without front lift and did a full track build on it. I originally was gonna do all the work myself but paragon talked me into doing a collab with them and let them build it and do build videos. The car is stuck to the track!

I also found I could not fit in the C8 for street driving with the comp seats. Quite a bit taller.

I did decide to get the 2LT so I could get mag ride and all the PTM modes even thought it now has coil over shocks. Primary reason being to have access to all the PTM modes and weather modes. I chatted with Mark Petronis and he said it still helps to have those modes even with full AP brakes and coil overs with the mag ride eliminators installed.

Basic overview video can be found here:

They also figured out how to stop all the stupid warnings and error codes with the missing seats! I need to do the same for my Z06 now. Mine was the first car they solved it on:

The next project for this car once the livery is done and I need to rebuild the brakes is we are gonna make some CCB rotors and pads for it and see how that compares.

I do suspect when the GS has been out for a while and I can find a used 2LT somewhere with low miles I will snag one and do a full track build on that

That is great there is a fix for the airbag/seatbelt warning light. I have a C7 GS with a Sparco QRT-R, fantastic seat, and the warning light is a nuisance. I also love how by removing the sliding adjustability you can get it so much lower since I'm 6'3". I do feel like I'm sitting high in a C8 compared to my race seat set up. I'm leaning towards the GT2 seats since if I replace them I won't feel to bad.

Good info so far for a dedicated track car as well as a compromised track-day car. I always start trying to keep is as stock as possible so I can drive it back and forth from the track but it always evolves over time.

Any thoughts on wheels? Think we'll be able to do 18's from someone like Apex?

1LT to keep it as light as possible, then add performance/track-related options. 2LT comes with non-performance items that add weight.

I see people posting to get a 1LT for weight but the weight differences aren't that much. I found this in a Facebook post:

The weight difference between the C8 Corvette 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT trim levels is as follows:
  • 1LT Coupe: 3,366 lbs.
  • 2LT Coupe: 3,401 lbs.
  • 3LT Coupe: 3,436 lbs.
  • 1LT Convertible: 3,511 lbs.
  • 2LT Convertible: 3,546 lbs.
  • 3LT Convertible: 3,581 lbs.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/6374...9549203126010/

If it is strictly a track car then I can see going for a 1LT for both weight and cost. But if it is going to be a dual purpose track and street car, and one would take advantage of the 2LT features, then the extra 35 lbs between a 1LT and 2LT isn't that significant. It is less than a 1% increase in weight.

Great thread. Always track focused, but still a date night / late night hoonigan. Often wondered is base Z06/GSX is better option…..then add seats, coilovers, AP Brakes, bushings, sway bars, etc.

Does the GS Z52 get the extra drivers side oil cooler?
