Default '67 non-power Master Cylinder rebuild

Anyone recently have their C2 Master Cylinder rebuilt? If so, when, where, what was the cost. So many small parts repair guys we used to count on are not longer around, so I am looking for someone that is doing them now. Thanks. Panama 58

If you are marginally skilled this is an easy job and the only specialty tool required is a brake cylinder hone and a bench vise makes the job much easier.

I have used Apple Hydraulics as well as White Post in the past for rebuilds that needed sleeves. Don't remember the cost though.

Funny you asked this today as I just evaluated the MC from my 67 this afternoon and while I am more then capable of rebuilding it, I believe I'm going to send it out to one of the two mentioned as my time is better spent working on other parts of this restoration.

Those that provide rebuilt / new calipers also generally rebuild master cylinders. Lone Star is one.
I have a hone and rebuild my own. If I can do it, almost any dummy can. The key is any pits in the bore may be too deep to hone out. Some suppliers can sleeve the master cylinders, but it is generally cheaper to just by new or rebuilt at the FLAPS unless you are going for the NCRS gold.

I used Apple Hydraulics for mine, they installed a brass sleeve.

I have done a couple in the past that didn't need sleeved and yes it was very straight forward.. This one I have has some pitting and I believe will need to be sleeved. It belongs to my very low VIN unrestored car and I need it to be done right and not cosmetically restored. No one remembers what they paid? Thanks for the recommendations.

If you want rebuilt and sleeved, call Apple Hydraulics or Lone Star in Texas. CSSB and White Post are two others that may also be used with good/proven results. White Post only does brass sleeves. Apple can do both brass and stainless. The other two are stainless only.

I used CSSB back in the early days (1990's) for stainless sleeve and rebuilding. Never an issue in 30+ years.

Lone Star may want you to use only DOT 3 fluid for warranty..............but it should not be an issue if you use other fluids as well.

Thanks for the comments Larry. I reached out to Apple, Lone Star and White Post today, gave them my particulars and each one is within a few dollars of each other at $400. I hadn't considered stainless. You are right, White Post only does brass. If you had it to over, would you still go with stainless steel?

Yes..............but either should work fine for your needs. Some say the brass sleeves are superior in the MC........but that was years ago. I believe JohnZ was one of the brass supporters, since he. often recommended White Post. Stainless was more difficult to work with then, but we have come a long way since in our machining and fabrications technology.
