Substitute for Holley 4150/60 transfer tube O-rings?
Am I missing something? $10.32 + shipping for a pair of o-rings for a standard Holley 4150/60 transfer tube? That's insane! Isn't there a much more reasonable substitute?
.
Here are the measurements I jut made of the O-ring that was working perfectly...
0.3740 is OD uninstalled
0.3785 is OD installed on the transfer tube
0.2475 ID of the transfer tube
0.0695 is cross section of the o-ring
while I feel your pain this isn't an area I think you want to short cut. this area is very prone to leaking on a Holley. so doing anything you can to eliminate a chance of a leak is a good idea.
I bought a kit of Viton O-rings which are fuel resistant. However, you can go to your FLAPS and get them or order them on-line from specialty suppliers that sell O-rings and other products.
O-rings are very likely NITRILE or NEOPRENE RUBBER. R66 says VITON WILL ALSO WORK, but I can't verify without more checking. However Ron is usually correct in his advice.

EDIT: Nitrile is also known as Buna-N rubber. You DO NOT want EPR or EPDM rubber used for brake systems as they will deteriorate fast in gasoline.....which will cause an engine fire.
Just buy the right stuff and pay the going rate for these.
Buna-N O-rings are fine for most fuel applications and are probably what Holley supplies as they are cheaper. Viton is a bit better especially when using ethanol fuels as it is more chemical resistant, but a little higher in price. Just what I learned on line, I am not a rubber expert - have 2 kids.

These are the ones I just used on my Holley 4160. They worked perfectly. I put a little motor oil on my fingers then worked over these grommets before installing. Otherwise they can roll up when pressing into place.
