I don't know the details of your vintage air unit, but I can offer some info.
Over 30 years ago, I had the experience of converting a 69 Vette with Heater only to have factory air RPO C60 CAC. I obtained all the C60 CAC parts needed from some wrecked C3 Vettes in a scrapyard.
The conversion required:
* Take out the Heater only Blower Box and put in a C60 Evaporator Housing: I am selling one of these in a separate post on this forum
* Take out the Heater core and put in a different one required for C60
* Change out pretty much all the factory interior ductwork behind the dash from hot air only to more extensive factory ductwork that handles both hot air and cold air
* Change the Heater Control Head on the center console to the C60 Heater/AC version
* Change out the heater only electrical wiring and vacuum control harnesses and replace them with the C60 versions.
* Add the external fresh versus interior recycled air valves and two vacuum actuators to the passenger side plenum and kick-panel
* Of course, add the AC compressor. Add the condenser and dryer in front of the radiator. Add the AC hoses.
I can say that the AC Center Dash Outlet being sold here was a direct replacement for the Heater only one in the 1969 Vette I worked on. I would expect this to be true for a 1972.
However, to get cold air out of the two vents, you would somehow have to duct cold air from your vintage air unit to the rear of this AC Center Dash Outlet. The factory cold air duct in the dash connects where the flap valve is shown in the lower right photo.
Not sure whether this info answers your question; please follow up if I can tell you more.
