Default C8 Factory Screen Protectors – Keep or Remove?

Hello— We noticed our 2026 C8 came with factory screen protectors on all three digital displays. Curious what everyone is doing—leaving them on or taking them off? I can see pros and cons either way. The main screen on mine already has a small tear in the protector, which got me thinking… do I just peel them off and move on, or replace them?

I get these aren’t phones or tablets that get constant abuse, so I’m leaning toward removing them and just keeping the screens clean with a dedicated microfiber cloth.

What’s everyone else doing?

Hmm, reminded of my wife who will not take off the thin blue Plastic protective covering on aluminum panels on the 4 door sills and rear hatch of her BMW SUV. Daughter in OH who we gave the last two SUV's to when wife got a new one, thinks it is a bit strange BUT removes and has a new car! Wife's current 2025 PHEV BMW X5 SUV still has the blue covering!

So whoever you are saving the car for will probably appreciate although think it is strange they were not removed. Frankly I remove the protective shipping plastic protection on TV's, computer screens etc and my Vettes - day 1!

SIDEBAR
I have no "protection" for my iPhone Screen, although it's in a leather case with cover. You guessed it, my wife pays for a special Glass protector that T-Mobil sells and installs for her when we get new phones. It has a lifetime warranty. Yep, she has had it replaced twice free!

FWIW I have always removed these clear plastic screen protectors on all makes of cars over the years.
I have never damaged the actual screens on any car with my fingertips.... decades of use.
Good luck with your decision.

The plastic film on the screens are factory and shipping protection. It is pretty heavy duty. Surely not optics friendly. Ours was taken off during the dealer delivery prep. Found out I didn't have them from the Forum.

Back in the Motorola Flip Phone days, screens were semi-delicate and prone to scratches. Screen saver add on's were the protection de jour. The specialty glass on decent phones these days are darn tuff hombre's. Even with modest care, they won't scratch. Haven't used a screen saver in more years that I can count. Fingers and toes.

And if your worried about smudges, wash your hands more often. Not a bad idea anyway.

Thanks for the responses. I’ll remove the screen covers today when the microfiber cloth arrives. I plan to just keep the cloth in the car for occasional fingerprint cleanup.

My wife somehow never leaves fingerprints… I leave them everywhere. At this point I’m basically a walking forensic case. OCD kicking in 😄

Take them off. The plastic is for protection prior to delivery and not made to last. Over time it will likely discolor, scratch easily, degrade, and the adhesive may harden. If you've ever tried to remove clear plastic that has been left on for a while you know what I mean. It comes off in little tiny pieces and may leave a residue.

Modern touch screens are pretty robust and don't scratch easily with proper care. If you are really concerned about it get some aftermarket protectors made for the job.

When I see someone has left the blue or clear protective plastic on a new car/refrigerator/tv/etc... it takes all my will power not to peel it off for them. This is intended to be removed and is only to protect the components in shipping.

Many years ago, a good friend bought a knock off Rolex from a good friend. Months later, he noticed this curl on the edge of the face. The protective film was finally peeling off. Hadn't noticed it before. He took that as a sign from the watch gawds. And threw both away.

Hey what are friends for?

I don't see the problem. I have plastic covers on all my furniture in the house. Full walking runners covering our nice wood floors. On the C8 since the front is covered with that plastic film I got the whole car covered also, to protect it ya know.

Ok, ok I didn't do that.

I pulled mine off the first time I sat in the car. I hate plastic covers on screens.

Reminds me of all the guys who bought the Chargers and Challengers with the big front splitters who refuse to take the bright yellow shipping protectors off, looks so silly driving around with them on the car.

Pull that $hit off and toss it.
I seriously doubt you will scratch these Corvette screens, I did get a screen protector for My truck though.
I was told to not use them if they have the plastic shipping layer in place.
Mine were removed at the National Corvette Museum, they are gone.

Hmm, Daughter who gets the old ones loves it. With a 3 year old car it's like new to her!

The interior of my 2017 Highlander that I sold last year looked brand new too because I took care of it and had it semi-regularly detailed. No plastic film left on from the factory.

+1 vote for removing whatever comes on the car....
I put he aftermarket screen protectors on my wife's car, they are cheap protection but I do find that they can make the touch screen less sensitive...I don't have them on any of my cars but I am much more carful then my wife..

I've had my car since the beginning of March and the screen savers are still on the screens. First, I prefer buttons and I don't like having to flip through screens or the fingerprints. But I know that with tech comes screens and I'll accept it. I'll leave my screen protectors on until they start to peel. It's my car, my choice.
