FS: 2002 Corvette Z06 (C5) - Philadelphia, PA
64,XXX miles
Clean title, Clean Carfax, No accidents
Garage kept
Love this car, only selling because I bought a C8 Z06 and don't have time for two supercars and a toddler. I have owned this car for over 9 years, did maintenance religiously- oil changes, fluids, air filter, MAF cleaning, fuel filter, etc. I have all maintenance records from previous owner as well as myself.
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Price: $24,995 (based on Hagerty valuation- see below)
405 hp, only 3,100 lbs in weight, 50/50 weight distribution, 6 speed manual...it really doesn't get much better than this for a driving purist's car.
Mechanically: Excellent, motor runs strong, transmission shifts smooth in every gear. Not surprising as I was on top of maintenance, plus these cars are known to go 300,000+ miles without any drivetrain issues, so 64,000 miles is nothing for these cars (see: https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cul...rvette-museum/ as an example). Fresh oil change and brake fluid just performed. New crankshaft position sensor and oil pressure sensor just installed.
Interior: Would rate it a 9.5/10. In superb condition. Virtually no wear on seats or any interior surfaces. No fading, no cracks in any plastic, no rattles or squeaks.
Exterior: Car and paint still look amazing. Underneath/chassis is very clean and no rust. The red paint has stayed bright with no sunfade or any clearcoat issues. Since it's a 64,XXX mile car rather than a low mile show car, you're probably gonna find some minor imperfections here and there if you're looking closely, but the car overall looks amazing and gets tons of compliments.
Modifications Done:
- 8.8" Touchscreen Head Unit/Stereo in OEM center console opening- Android Auto/Apple CarPlay (really modernizes the appearance and function of the interior. Google Maps, Bluetooth calling, Pandora, Spotify, any app you want on this thing, while still having an "OEM" appearance)
- Backup camera tied into the Android head unit: super useful due to Corvettes having low visibility when backing up
- Borla catback and X-pipe (sounds amazing)
- B&M Short Throw Shifter
- Valvespring upgrade to GM Blue Springs along with new Felpro intake/exhaust valve seals and valve cover gaskets (preventive fix for common failure point on LS6s): work performed by Corvette specialist shop Complete Street Performance
- LMC5 Column Lock Bypass (an aftermarket "forever fix" for a common issue on C5s)
- LED head lights (have stock ones to give as well)
- LED tail lights (can swap for stock ones if you prefer)
- LED interior lights, backup lights, license plate lights
- CorvetteEnvy hyperflash harness (allows you to run LEDs in the car without issue)
- Interior leather upgrades with red stitching
- Shorty antenna
- Performance Hood Seal (extra seal to keep water out of engine bay)
- Acid neutralizing mat under battery (preventive item)
- Throttle body coolant bypass (reduces intake air temps, for better performance)
- Skip Shift Eliminator
In summary, pretty much most of the mods you would want to do to modernize the car and enhance the driving experience, while maintaining reliability and permanently fixing the issues common to these cars.
A couple minor quirks which this car has and is common to C5 Corvettes:
- Fuel level gauge sometimes goes to empty randomly. Common issue on C5s, usually a few bottles of Techron/fuel system cleaner fixes this, but if not then it's still an easy DIY job to clean the sulfur buildup on the sensor in the fuel tank.
- Headlights go up and down just fine and in sync, but after going down the motor runs for a couple seconds longer than it needs to. Another common issue on C5s and an easy/cheap fix if it bothers you.
Some extras that will come with car:
- Maxtech custom C5 car cover (fits it like a glove).
- Polyurethane sway bar bushings (front and rear)- upgrade over stock, for stiffness.
- 3rd key (I had an extra key made just in case)
- Stock H-pipe
2002-2003 are the best years for the C5 Z06 as long as the car has had the valvesprings replaced (which this car has). 2004 is not the best year for C5 Z06s due to the redesigned fuel tanks which have a design flaw and are a huge expense to fix/replace. 2001 had less power and some cars had oil consumption issues.
Education for the uninitiated: These cars (C5 Z06) are pretty important, historically speaking. All the lightweighting, suspension/chassis, gearing, and power effort on the C5 Z06 Corvette was worth it in the end as it had the fastest Nürburgring time, and lap times of any production car in its era. "When the C5 Corvette Z06 clocked its 7:56 Ring time (remember this was 20+ years ago and the track wasn't as optimized as it is now), it was a pretty big deal. It was the first truly stock/OEM/production car to break past the eight-minute mark."
They even went so far as to put titanium exhaust on the car from the factory; the first true production car to do so, thinned the window glass, removed sound deadening, lighter weight Speedline wheels from Italy, stiffer and lighter body compared to the base C5 hatchback, stiffer suspension, etc. etc.
Oh, and this was also during the era of the C5-R dominating GT racing, including multiple 24 Hours of Le Mans wins.
Note: I will be vetting for serious buyers, no joyrides.
