Good day kids! I just purchased my 4th Corvette. As you can see by my avatar I have a 23 Stingray that I bought new. I have loved every minute and every one of the 21000 miles I've put on it. It has been flawless.
When Z06's came out I was almost disappointed in how wimpy the Z made the Stingray look. But the prices they were getting...woof! I couldn't afford that. But now I can. And I did. I've been looking for a Z with the exact config of my Stingray and it finally happened. Was able to work a trade for a 24 3LZ HTC with only 2800 miles.
Everything checks out. 1 owner rarely driven. Warranty is intact. No damage reported. However, the trans was replaced in April. That's all I know. No explanation. It wasn't even on the carfax. I had to contact GM and have them look up history before I found out.
I already pulled the trigger so I own it. I would like to get thoughts and opinions about the trans replacement at such a low mileage. I know this is an issue. I've read about this constantly on this forum. I believe GM is on top of the problem and I should be OK. I assume the replacement is an updated version.
So tell me what you think folks. Should I have run away? Nobody has a crystal ball but do you think this going to cause me further issues down the road? Your thoughts and comments are appreciated.
It's a bit too late to run away now, but if it doesn't have any problems and the transmission is shifting fine with no strange noises you're probably ok. I'd get an extended warranty and enjoy the car. At least the transmission is new and the problem is fixed. I'd image the previous owner developed a bad taste for the car after the failure, decided they didn't want to deal with future problems, and traded it. Who knows, they could have traded up for a ZR1.
The DCT in the C8 is a bit of a lottery. I think the overall failure rate still is low, there are just a ton of these cars out there so it seems high.
If the car is working as expected, I wouldn't worry about it. The car is yours and whatever may happen in the future is going to happen whether you stress about it or not. Just enjoy the car.
I owned a 22 SR that I purchased used with 1200 miles on it. It had a transmission change at 950 miles. I traded it 2-1/2 years later with a little over 16000 miles on it for the Z06. The new transmission ran flawlessly.
