Wheel Spacers - Good or Bad?
I have Wilwood Big Brakes on my Z. Currently I'm using 18X10 square Speedline with an 18mm offset. Works fine. This was my track setup.
Now, I'm returning the car to strictly street use. I bought a set of C6 base wheels, 18x8.5 and 19X10. But of course, the offset doesn't allow for clearance of the brake calipers (but the wheels look SO good!).
If I put 20mm spacers between the wheel and the hub, I have plenty of clearance and the wheels ride in about the same position as they do now with the Speedlines.
I'm reading conflicting information about using spacers, bad idea, no problem...
What is your opinion/experience with spacers? What spacer would you buy?
Thank you!
Jeff

No issues at all with the spacers, just have to make sure you get good quality and install them correctly.

Oem C6 Z06 wheels are 18x9.5 front and 19x12 rear so those wheels you have are obviously repros.
Good quality hubcentric spacers will work well.

And yes, the Speedlines that I have been using for the track DO poke out...
1. It changes the geometry of the front suspension.
2. It stresses the wheel bearing more.
The larger the spacers, the larger those two problems become. It will eventually affect the handling. Do you track your Vette?

I've got my car's stance dialed in as perfect as it can be using 1/2" spacers with my flares and wheel specs

These claims are simply not true as stated. It depends on how much the wheel centerline is moved, not simply on how thick the spacer is.
For example, say the car had a 10" wide wheel with 0mm offset and is being changed to 10" wide wheels with 25mm offset. Putting in a 25mm spacer to match the old wheel would have zero effect on the geometry and would not stress the wheel bearing any further.
Now, same wheel change but putting in a 50mm spacer does make a change that could affect the way the suspension handles or possibly wear the bearing a bit more.
