Powertrain ticking that appears when car is warm
i have 96 LT4 6 speed.
I'm struggling to pinpoint the source of this ticking noise that comes on when the car is warm.
I've been using a stethoscope to locate the source of the noise.
Until today, the closest I thought I had gotten to the noise was valvetrain. When I place the stethoscope on the valve cover bolts, I hear some ticking from both sides, which may just be the natural operation.
But today I was going around to look for other culprits, my suspension being that it could be from the engine's bottom end. But no ticking on the oil pan.
I sensed the faintest ticking from the driver side exhaust and cat.
But the spot that I discovered has the most prominent ticking is the transmission bell housing.
Am I reading it wrong? Or is there something in there that can cause a tick when the car is warm?
Thanks!
