that starts in NYC, so I figured I'd visit a few more states in the northeast on my way there. And that gives me a couple extra days in case I have troubles.
The car is kind of ready to go, after all, what could possibly go wrong?
Made it a ways into New Mexico today, but the last two miles out of AZ took a few hours, there was a bad semi wreck on I10 and got stuck waiting for them to clear the highway.
Car is doing fine so far, of course, since it's only 64 years old.
so that's what these holes in the steering wheel are for? traffic finally started moving after a couple hours sitting still A parking spot of my own. Of course I'll put the top up, to make the car theftproof

I drove that stretch of road in my 62 almost exactly 50 years ago. When i finished my Residency in Family Practice at the U of Utah my wife and I drove down to Los Alamos to see her family, then off to see the Grand Canyon, through Death Valley and up CA central valley to San Fransisco and then wine country.. From there we drove all the way down highway 1 (before half of it fell into the ocean) to San Diego. We left San Diego at night to cross the desert in the cool -100+ mph all the way. I sure was glad I had installed those Cibie 'Flamethrowers' -I really could see well enough to drive 100. We continued on to Houston and then up the middle of the country and into Canada. Back into the US at Niagara Falls and finally to Concord, NH, where I had a job waiting in the Concord Clinic. Of course we stopped along the way to see friends (hence the crazy route), but we did a bit over 4,000 miles in two months with narie a problem.
I hope you similar success. If you are going to be anywhere near Dublin, NH, PM me and stop by for a beer.
Jim, a suggestion for trinkets from each state are the chips that each Harley Davidson dealer has for sale. They are less than $5 and each one is different. Also look at Jackfit’s tour and you may get some ideas. Jack stayed with many of the forums members and spent very few nights in hotels. Members also helped out on repairs that were needed. Have a great time.
What motor court are you at in NM there? The Blue Swallow?
That was the King's Rest Court in Santa Fe. Been there a few times before.
Pictures from today, it was a long drive...
really chilly in Santa Fe this morning! I had my jacket on for quite a while. I guess I could have left the top up, but it's so much nicer with it down. Trees around Santa Fe, and up into Colorado. Gas stop in Colorado, 2 cars from the 60s, and two RHD mail Jeep XJs. lunch at the park by the county fairgrounds in a small Colorado town. Cheyenne Wells? Then when you head east, it all gets flat and barren But then it turns green again, but even flatter! Can you spot the other corvette in this picture? Parked at my hotel for the night.
