HI,
Took a spirited fathers day drive with my 13 year old this afternoon.. late.. then brought the car home and detailed it for an hr and a half or more.. left car on (not running) as I was using Pandora and wanted to continue listening... while I cleaned and detailed. BATTERY DEAD AS A DOOR ****. Was able to open frunk.. put it on charger for 15 min.. and it cranked over..but only once as I turned it off to reposition my charger to close garage door for the night.. NOPE.. WON'T START.. BATTERY DEAD. I''m going to leave it on charger in driveway overnight to get a full charge..
Just wondering how long battery is generally good for.. 17800 miles 2023 3lt c8. I bought it two months ago.. so I do not know how old the battery is.. if its original or what. Costco a good option if I need one? ANY HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED.. and HAPPY FATHERS DAY.

You can't leave this car on for hours without starting the engine. The draw is at least 10 amps.
With the car on in the service mode (engine not running) the normal draw is going to be at least 10 amps if all the external lights are off. I have measured that - it is not a guess. Sometimes it a little higher. If the doors are open or listening to music at high volume, probably more. The chart below from the service manual shows how long it takes to discharge a battery from 80% state of charge to 50% state of charge at various current levels. The charging system generally does not charge the battery to 100%, rather its more like 80% - per the service manual. At 2 amps it takes 0.4 days or 9.6 hours. At 10 amps it draws it down 5 times as fast, so that's going to be 1.92 hours. And that's if it was at 80%
Your battery may have been fine. Many believe that once it is fully discharged its not going to fully recover. But your was not full discharged, because you were able to open the frunk (and I assume the music was playing up till you discovered the problem). You might be ok but I would have the battery load tested after it has taken as much charge as it can.
My 2020 radio will shut itself off after about 20 minutes in accessory mode. I don't know if it will run indefinitely in service mode but these batteries aren't that big so it doesn't take long to run them down without the engine running. It also will display a warning that the battery is low and to start the car on the DIC. If I want to keep the car radio playing I attach a battery charger.
You may need a new battery but it should be covered if your car is still within the B2B warranty. I replaced my battery with a Maxx H6 AGM battery from Walmart. Under $200, 4 year free replacement period, and Walmarts are everywhere.
batteries are unpredictable. Lifespan depends on environment, use, particular vehicle draw, battery integrity, etc. Had to replace OEM batters on one of my C6's like every 14 months due to bad batteries. Anyway. Charge the battery test it. If its bad, just replace the battery and move on. 4 to 5 years is good for a battery on average.
I keep one of those $30-$50 car jump starters in all of my cars. In the C8 I keep it in the frunk since you can't open the trunk with a dead battery. Keep insurance for an unexpected dead battery. Just need to remember to charge them every couple months.
my 2018 Ford F150 still has the priginal battery in it and has 108K miles on it. My 2023 C8 is soon to be 4 years old in August and has the origianl battery in it with no problems yet.
They croak without warning...no slow starter indicating a problem with the Batt... I got 3.5 and it went dead at a gas station...luckily an O'Reilleys across the street. There will be enough juice for strange, haunted things to happen as the computer has some fun with you.
I have a 2023 with 33k miles and starting to feel like the battery is starting to go.
On cold starts after a day or 2 voltage is showing 12.8-13.5 until it gets warmed up a bit.
Also on occasion the remote start won't work even though doorrs are closed and locked.
I am thinking of going with the Amazon Lithium battery. Other forum memembers seem to have had good luck with them so far. I would go Antigravity but at over 1000 plus shipping I just can't justify it.
I wouldn't mind 30lbs off the nose of the car espacially since I am a 1LT non mag car so already the lightest possible set up.
As suggested, simply replace the battery and go on. I've found that even "identical" batteries in similar vehicles can have dramatically different life-spans. Heck, I've bought two top-end batteries that were bad when I got them and had to be swapped for others like them that were fine. Go figure.
I replaced the battery on my 21 3lt 8k miles about two months ago. I bought a Costco AGM battery. Working fine. I usually get my batteries from East Penn Manufacturing plant (factory store) who make a variety of brand name batteries but Costco's price was better.
I replaced my 2021 OEM battery after 5 years. It showed no signs of weakness - it was a precautionary replacement. And, I had exactly the same OEM FLA battery installed.
Mine is kept in a climate controlled garage on the CTEK charger.
If I am charging my battery, and I turn the ignition on without starting the engine, will the battery experience a net charge, or net discharge?
Typically, net discharge.
With the car on and engine off, it draws at least 10 amps - I have measured it. So, you would need a charger larger than 10 amps to have a net charge in that case.
