Front Collision Alert
On my 2026 HTC 3LZ the Front Collision Alert setting always resets back to "ON" with each ignition key cycle. I prefer to have it set to "Alert", but it won't stay on that setting. My wife's 2021 Caddy XT4 will keep the "Alert" setting and my 2024 Colorado will also keep the "Alert" setting with each key cycle. But for some reason my 2026 Z will revert back to "ON" with each ignition cycle. Am I missing some setting somewhere or is this a new "feature" to protect the stupid and irresponsible from themselves and irritate the rest of us?
Thanks in advance.

The safety tech regulations get more onerous every year but I was of the understanding that only EU regulations require everything turns back on with each ignition cycle but I’m not sure.
I had a bad experience with a false activation of automatic braking that almost caused me to crash… as I was about to turn into an open lane the system activated so violently it scared the crap out of me and the seat belt retracted so aggressively it pulled me back into the seat and almost pulled my hands off the wheel.
To have that automatic braking reset with every ignition cycle on a car many people track and track hard doesn’t make sense.
Hopefully there’s something we’re missing because not being able to permanently turn the automatic braking off, or at minimum set to alert only, would definitely prevent me from trading up to a 2026 or later.

Totally agree about the "false" alarms, had one on my Audi, almost caused a major crash....
YMMV!
Cheers!
Those systems have their place, but yeah they can be just as dangerous as not having them under the wrong circumstances. I have alerts on for the pedestrian alert, but damn, my car would be auto braking all the time on its own if I left it on. You take any moderate/sharper corner that have pedestrians standing near the curb and the system thinks you are going to plow right into them.
I think they should have them on by default from the factory, but the option to permanently tweak them as the owner sees fit without having to go thru it every time. Luckily at least on my 25', all my settings are retained regardless of ignition cycles.

Both features have almost caused serious accidents. The automatic braking incident I described below but the lane correction scare was worse… driving on a winding tree lined road, no passing double yellow center line. No run off room on either side of the road, just trees. Came around a corner to a cyclist coming the other way. I swerved slightly over the double yellow to give the cyclist some room and the lane correction immediately “corrected” my maneuver and steered the car directly back towards the cyclist. I don’t know whose eyes were bigger. Mine or his. As fast as I could I corrected the correction, and avoided the cyclist… without over correcting into the trees…
We both kept going in opposite directions but I hope he knows I wasn’t trying to kill him, it was the car!!!
Can’t live with a car that has those kinds of features constantly turning themselves back on after being purposely deactivated by the owner.

This makes me not want to buy a new vehicle if I as the responsible driver/owner cannot choose which is the safer operating mode.
Like mentioned above, I have experienced incidents where I was moving left to avoid a bicyclist or pedestrian and the car lane assist tried to steer the car back right into them. Same sort of problem with emergency braking, when one rainy night my truck slammed the brakes on for no apparent reason almost coming to a complete stop from 55mph on a 2 lane highway. If anyone had been behind me, they would have very likely rearended me.
I can see salivating lawyers and lawsuits from both of these features happening. In my opinion and based upon my personal many years and miles of driving experience, there are just too many variables that can potentially occur for a computer to be overriding a human being when operating a motor vehicle. Give me a false warning, but don't make my vehicle do something that could actually cause a problem that doesn't exist.
