Default Exhaust to Differential space
Noticed a goofy noise from the back end lately. Thought maybe the differential fluid needed changing so I did that. Noise still there, only when leaving from a dead stop or backing up and turning. Anyway, looked underneath and noticed that both exhaust pipes are up tight against the differential. I'm thinking that might be the noise. What should the space be? Probably heating up the differential too?

In the '72 AIM it says 1/2" max below the strut rod bracket. I agree that tight to the bracket would probably cause vibration/rattling noise.

Did you check the front differential rubber mounting bushings?
