I85 bridge collapse - best detour?
So I'm going to be driving down to Panama City FL this weekend for the Celebration of Life for my departed uncle, 27 year AF vet, fighter jockey and sailor. Atlanta is always a hot mess but the I85 bridge collapse has really got their panties in a wad. I'd appreciate some first hand advice on the best bypass route. Is I285 the best bet? Looks like it only adds a couple of miles.

It sounds like going from I-85 to I-285 West would be the most logical route for you. I'm assuming you are coming into town on I-85.

Depending on when you come south, I-285 might be your best bet. Keep in mind a lot of the traffic has been using this as an alternate, so it has added a ton of volume to an already congested route.
If you can manage to go through very early (pre 6 AM) or post 8 PM, you'll be in much better shape.

285W will be easiest for you, but I would play with the Waze app and try to find another way around too. Backroads might take longer but will be less stressful.
Avoid rush hours at all costs. Mid-morning to early afternoon is your best bet, unless you can come through at night.

Does the TOLL BYPASS around Atlanta accept Florida's SunPass?

Thanks. I will be coming down I85 from SC. I'll probably hit Hot 'Lanta about noon, slightly earlier if we can get out of the house. We will be running WAZE and the POS GM NAV for what it's worth, maybe throw in my Garmin with traffic alerts as a tiebreaker.

The only toll lanes at this point around Atlanta are on I-85 above I-285, and I-75 south of I-285. If you're using I-285 only you don't need to worry about it.
Sunpass does work with the Peachpass HOT lanes.

I285 worked fine, traffic was moving well both ways. On the way home I85 just south of the SC line was blocked by an accident and Waze was advising to get off a couple of exits prior. We stopped for gas and a sandwich and by the time we got there it was moving again.

We drove through Atlanta going to and from Talladega this weekend.
We stuck to the I285 - going north of Atlanta both ways - and traffic wasn't too terrible.
Google Maps did redirect us both times to take 285 North.

Both North and South bound I-85 lanes are expected to re-open no later than this Monday, 5/15, for anyone planning a trip thru the area...

If you run into any trouble along the way post up here at the Forum...Plenty of great Corvette guys here in San Antonio...We'll come get you if necessary.......There are also a lot of friends and members along the way in Biloxi, Lafayette and Houston.
I would check into the quarantine rules coming into Texas from Louisiana...That is real.
BTW....Where is your car going in San Antonio?
