Watch out for the road rage if you get near Orlando. The first 15 minutes of the news are mostly shootings or similar stories.

Yeah, that's why I never go there,, or to Tampa, or Gainsville.
I pretty much stay in Citrus county or go up to Ocala if we need to do any major shopping. Even the traffic in Ocala can get nerve racking at times.
I never take the vett there.

We love living in Palmetto. 5 minutes to Ellenton,10 minutes to Bradenton, St. Pete & Sarasota not far...a beach every 20 minutes. And we have found several Upstate NY type Italian deli's with homemade Italian sausage, good cold cuts, thick hard crust bread and real NY homemade pizza.
Couldn't find that in Tennessee.

Omg, I might have to drive down there just to get some NY pizza.
I haven't had any pizza that comes close to what I eat in the Bronx in the 40-50s,, wood fired ovens, good ingredients, baked on bricks.
Sure miss it.

Have you found a good Corvette mechanic (dealer or private) in the area yet? Got my C6-Z here and having some issues.

Hello,
I just stumbled onto this thread so sorry if I'm late to the show.
My wife and I purchased a home in Bradenton, Manatee County in 2010.
In 2014 we visited Madeira beech and Treasure Island/Johns Pass.
We fell in love!!!
We sold our home in Bradenton and built a home in Seminole just a stones throw from the beech.
We are prayerful with good health we will be able to retire there in the near future.
My Grand parents retired to St. Pete in 1972.
My parents assumed that home in 1996
I just inherited the home in 2015.
I live for the fact I can drive my 68 BB coupe almost year round(almost)
In PA we shut it down and tuck em in around Halloween.
People don't come out of hibernation till after tax day.
That's right you may not see your neighbors for 6 months.
And if any significant snow falls plan on getting up an extra hour early for removal.
I can deal with the heat, that's why they make AC.
Hope to see all of you someday.
Marshal

Default for those with 2 homes, snow birds and rust belters

1 maintaining a northern residence too ? go south fla for seasonal winter occupancy . It stays green all winter south of tampa. Pick sarasota and south to naples IN THE WEST AND aND PORT ST LUCIE TO MIAMI IN THE EAST .

2A single residency? northern florida Jacksonvile or st augustine for republicans and christians. any Where ELSE FOR OTHERS, no one cares.

2 EXPECT TO BE SHUNNED IN SW FLA IF YOU ARE NOT EITHER A: CHRISTIAN ,WHITE, CONSERVATIVE OR RUSTBELT ER.

3 Sw fl best suited for non liberals and for midwesterners, canadians with manners .

4 Easten florida suitable for new englanders and especially non gentiles.

5 Sw fla is especially tolerant, biased toward and inviting toward the working mexcian service providers others, not so much.

Bonus: enter the nicest gated community you can afford in the best location near public transportation , rail, shopping and auto centers with new dealerships- that is where the economy and most of the spending is done.

the florida local economies run around: colleges (public sector jobs) , tourism , hospitals.

there is a costal economy on the eastern seabord and a more balance economy for import and export.

Consumer goods are more expensive in southern Florida due to transportation logistics and captive audience of boomer economy demand for essentials of food and medical care. The majority Old people with money spend their money on their kids and are past interests of their prime spending years.

If you plan to work and or raise a family the eastern side of florida is demographically far better suited for economic opportunity

We moved from Chicago to Sarasota/Bradenton area in 2005. Love the weather and year-round Corvette and sports car scene. It’s definitely more crowded these days, but I love living close to the gulf-side beaches and incredible sunsets.

That's my dream right there . . . pool, canal and boat. Where is Southwest Florida is that? I've been looking in Port Charlotte/Punta Gorda area.
