Default Beware

Rec'd a mail-out pledging $920 less on homeowners insurance. So I ran the numbers and the results were NUTS!

My current Frontline Ins. for the year 2023 (not Kin above) is $4,170 w/dwelling (Coverage A) @ a higher 350k, w/hurricane deductible @ 2% of Cov A = 7k & Sinkhole ded @ 10% = 35k (a local non-issue). 1992 built.

Update: Was notified in the past week that my Frontline renewal for the year 2024 will be $5773, a whopping 38.6% increase. So I immediately shopped around. Heard that USAA was a go-to. Veteran/neighbor says they do not take new clients in FL. so he went with Centauri Specialty Co. @ $7612 but bay-front & larger home than mine. My agent says he may be required to replace plumbing & HVAC after 20 (not 30) yrs. at his next renewal w/Centauri on his 2001. And a friend in FWB FL is a long-time member of USAA. Yet he currently pays $5800 on homeowners ins on a much older (1973) & smaller home. It appears I gotta bite the bullet on the new $5773 for 2024.
Welcome to FL. you all.

FL's state-backed Citizens Property Insurance Corp is under fed investigation. Insurer of last resort. Citizens insures about 1.3m policyholders who typically pay more money for a policy that covers less. If Citizens were to pay out all reserves, state law would require additional assessments/surcharges on all FL insurance consumers until the deficit is eliminated.
