Default Driving Events Near Charlotte, NC

Picked up a 2018 Z51 earlier this month. After the new car smell goes away in a couple months I want to find some local driving events where I can open it up a little. Anybody have any advice on tracks/events near Charlotte, NC?

Thanks.

I'm think there are times when the Speedway will let you take a lap, or 2 around the track. I'm sure that would be after you sign your life away so they won't be responsible for anything.

Give 'em a call.

I bought a 17 back in winter and the mid carolinas dealer association sent me an invite to a track day at VIR. A bit of a drive from Fort Mill but I'd say worth it. It was middle of the week and I couldn't make it but I told em to let me know next time even if it's not free (first one was gonna be free) If I can find the info I'll PM it to you

They used to have these about once a year for charity. It was popular, but one time someone didn't obey the rules and wrecked their car and someone got hurt.

Not sure if they still do this or not.I live about 40min from CMS.

Take a look at the various HPDE providers.

Chin motorsports, JustTrackIt, hookedondriving etc.

The track hosted events and "charity" events are (and depending on the track) kind of ho hum lead follow parade lap BS. It sounds like you want to do an actual trackday/HPDE

Actually, they just did one on Saturday. Sadly, I didn't see the post about it until Sunday.

Well....if you're in Ft Mill, you're only about 40 or so miles from Kershaw, where Carolina Motorsports Park is located!!

Take a look at the Turn One info on the www.carolinamotorsportspark.com site:

http://www.carolinamotorsportspark.c...education.html

For other events in your area, keep an eye on:

http://clubregistration.net

www.motorsportreg.com

Have fun at the track!!

And if you REALLY want to turn the beast in your Vette loose, come on down to run the Rolex24 roadcourse at Daytona Int'l Speedway at one of the HPDE's here this fall: Oct 6-8, Dec 1-3, or Dec 8-10.

This is also a Black Friday tradition. Instead of going shopping you can donate a defined (modest) amount to charity and take your car on the speedway for some touring laps. If you manage it right you can still open it up a bit.

I do it every year in my Vette with a buddy of mine who has a Hellcat. Good fun. Looking forward to taking the Z06 this November.

Yeah, they do it in conjunction with a big merchandise sale. I think it was around $25 for three laps. They have a pace car in front of about 10 cars on the speedway at a time, but if you hang back from the pace car you can open it up. It's easily worth the donation; it's to charity, anyway.

You will have to hunt around on the speedway's website in early November to find a notice about it, but it will be there.

Here's a link to a thread about an event that just went down at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Be sure to scroll down to post# 15 to view fleming23's PDR video of a few laps under-the-lights.

Keep an eye out for the same event to be run next year - I might even have to make that one myself!!!

Damn, I hate I missed that.

Hope they do the roval layout during the charity events again in the future.

If you need another roval fix before another event at CMS next year, come on down to run the Rolex24 roadcourse at Daytona this fall. If you like the CMS 24° banking, you'll love Daytona's 31° banks!!

It's less than 500 miles down to Daytona from the Charlotte area, so consider running one of the Daytona HPDE's this fall.

The next HPDE at Daytona will be with Performance Driving Group Oct 6-8. Here's a link to info in the AutoX/Roadrace section:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...oadcourse.html

And then there will be two HPDE's in Dec. One by an Audi club from Ohio Dec 1-3, and another one by MVP Track Time Dec 8-10.

Here's a link to the MVP event. You can register online, or by mail:

http://mvptracktime.com

Here's a link to the mail-in registration form for all 3 days, but you can do 1 or 2 days for a lesser registration fee:

SCCA Track night is on Aug 30th I think - they are running the Roval then.

You can either run the paced lap - or pay for the HPDE experience.

I'm not sure on the fee for the paced lap.
