Default Ocala Elks Lodge and Corvette Club of Marion County Car Show

I went to breakfast with a friend and then over to the Ocala Elks Lodge and Corvette Club of Marion County Car Show today.

A lot of nice cars showed up. The day was bright and sunny.

This Nova was all original and purchased just a short time ago.

This 1981 Corvette was purchased a little over a year ago by Rick, IIRC. It has about 23,000 actual miles on it. He has changed a few things on it like the 17 inch wheels, a modern radio, and the carb and intake. The interior was original and in excellent shape.

His brother of 51 years owned the Nova next to it.

If you read the thread on the local car shows where I put pictures from Citra last week, you will remember the 1989 and the 1990 of Roy and Mike.

Yes, there were Corvettes there.

This one has some type of ceramic coating over it to keep the shine and to eliminate the need to wax. The guy was saying you rinse it with water, wipe off with a towel, and it is clean. Fingerprints won't stay on it or anything. but it cost about $750 to do and should last about 6 or 7 years.

It kind of reminds me of the Liquid Glass that was pushed back in the '70s .

This Datsun has a story of its own. It was purchased new in 1971 by Bill Coffey and he still has it. It was one of the very first Datsun 240Z cars in South Florida. Bill is from Gainesville and brought it down. He has been very active in hillclimbs in the SE Division along with road racing. As it turns out, he and I knew many of the same people, but somehow we never ran into each other.

It just proves that it is a very small world in racing.

I also spent quite a bit of time talking to Rick on his '81 which was further up. He was telling me how so many told him you couldn't put an air gap manifold under a stock hood but he had. He used a lower air cleaner, cut it down on the neck, drilled holes so the base fill over the Holley float adjustments, and measured it all with clay to find he had over an inch of hood clearance.

That might come in handy for any trying to change intakes under a C3.

I took mine, of course, but didn't enter. I was just out for a breakfast ride and stop by the show but ended staying longer than I planned. I got a lot more sun than I planned, too.

And as it used to be, anywhere that Corvettes go, you often find police cars close behind. In fact, I had one of Ocala's finest behind me and then beside me on the way to the show.

This two are old Ocala police cars.
