Default another SEBRING TRACK DAYS weekend--14+15 june

http://www.speedventures.net/

I had a BLAST at the last one. the only thing I'd change is where we eat saturday night (service stunk at the watering hole)--I've tentatively made arrangements at another place. who's in??? I will be here, of course, but I may not drive this time. I hope to be able to get at least one day in though. give me a jingle if you have any questions about the event! :steering:

Man, i'd LOVE to do this. Iv'e been going to the 12 hours since 84'. I'm very apprehensive though, with no real track experience and a high performance car with rwd i'm afraid i'd end up in the wall. I CAN'T afford this. I also don't want to eat up my brakes. I did have them flushed and refilled with the new GM silicone dot 4 fluid recently. My question is: how safe is this event for a novice with sweaty palms, and what are the chances that il'l eat the realtively new stock pads or warp my stock rotors? :steering:

I'd have to advise getting a set of high performace pads.
AutoZone has Performace Friction Z Rated pads with a lifetime warranty.
Mine for my '96 LT-4 were $140 for the set.
They work great on the street too.
As far as your chances of hitting a wall, well that's up to you.
It does happen somewere in the Nation at some club's event at least once every weekend................
It might be best to start with some NCCC 'Low Speeds' to get accustomed to the car.

I was thinking if I did the event, I would get some pads just for the track, like the hawk racing set, then switch to my regular ones when I get home. I think I could take it easy on a few of the turns that flash in my head as the most dangerous ( turn 1, 10, 13, and 17). i would also have to find a helmet to borrow. We will see what happens...

trust me when I say I KNOW how you feel! I was apprehensive about it too but having done it now I can confidently say that it is safe! it's not a race by any means and you drive within your limits--passing only in designated areas ONLY by point-by (driver in front must wave you by). this is what having a vette is all about!!! ask more questions, I or fluxen will be happy to answer them! :steering:

This is a very safe event with instructors provided. Sweaty palms or not you decide how fast or slow you want to drive. I went last time and it was a great time. If you have even remotely desired to road race your Corvette, I strongly recommend this event and this track.

Ok here goes... I was talking to the wife and she said ok! So this could happen! I have a friend with an older helmet from his motorcycle I could borrow but... He used to do PCA events at Sebring in his 911 and said the helmet does not meet the new track standards... I'm free to use it though. The speedventures site lists a M85 rating ok for the 1st time at the track so il'l have to check. He was saying the pca club events there were only $125 with a $40 membership fee. Anyone know if it is still this cheap??? Also worried about my brakes. Do I need different pads (OEM 6 mo. old on there now)? Also, what about oil level in the motor, 1qt overfill, no need to worry, or any other issues? I can't swing $280 for the event plus $150+ for a helmet. We try to limit ourselves to $300 for b-bay presents... Thanks in advance.

I would not suggest overfilling your oil by a quart

as we near the event, keep checking with others coming--you'll be in the beginner group which means someone will have a helmet for you to borrow. I will probably run in the intermediate group and you can borrow mine when I'm not running.

BRAKES: BLEED your brakes close to the time you'll be coming down. your pads should be fine for what you'll be doing. you may want to replace the pads afterward though.

I would not recommend overfilling the oil. check speedventures check list, they have some good info on that site.

It's up in the air whether or not I'll be coming. I messed my left hand up pretty bad. I don't know whether or not it will be healed up well enough to do some serious driving. Time will tell. I'm crossing my fingers. I was going to go to Roebling Road this weekend and even though it's a fairly easy course I'm not going to be able to make it. I'm not too happy about that because I was really looking forward to running that track. :mad

Update: Some neat things have just been added to the Sebring event. First, Vici Racing out of Miami is going to have their ALMS GT Class Lamborghini GTR there. Should be very interesting to checkout and drive with on track, not to mention compare your times with! ;)

http://www.viciracing.com

The South Florida Motorsports Report will be at the event filming the Vici car and the event in general for an upcoming show. We are also going to use this event to tape a new SpeedVentures commercial to be used on cable to promote our events, and there's going to be a grudge match between to Florida DeeJays who are going to run a "challenge" against each other in a prepped Z06.

All in all, it should add some interesting elements to the event! I myself am very interested in checking out the Vici car and talking to the team. :yesnod:
