Excessive? Nah . . .
I'm in Lake Elsinore so summer temps hit 100+ deg. F frequently (quite often, near 110 deg. F) during the summer and will dip into the high 20's overnight in the winter. My garage is like an oven during the summer months to the point where I have no interest hanging out there for voluntary projects on the cars. Door insulation helped a little when it's fairly cool in the morning but the heat inevitably rises and then it's just a well-insulated oven. It's not always comfortable in the winter either - we've even had significant snow since moving here.
So, I finally fulfilled one of my garage goals and had a ductless heat pump installed last weekend. I got to help quite a bit since I already knew the A/C guy from a previous job he did for me and he's heavily into racing.
This is a 24,000 Btu Daikin heat pump - works great.
To make it even more efficient and uniform, I added this oscillating 24" fan. It mixes the air nicely to help it cool even faster and keep it more uniform throughout the garage.

Nice...a simple 12000 btu ac unit makes it SO much more pleasant in the summer.
What did that bendpak run you how do you like it?

Yeah, it needed the 24k Btu unit due to size. Pictures don't show it but it's a three-bay garage. Love the Bend Pak lift. I bought it about 10 years ago when we lived in Indiana reassembled it here when we moved. Nothing like having a 4-poster for the extra parking space and to work on the cars. Bend Paks started at ~$2400 when I bought this one.

Ed, as always your garage looks impeccable. I am looking into an A/C system for my garage so I am glad to see your thread. I also have a three car garage so I need to get something like yours. Email me some info when you have time. Two of my neighbors, one with the with the same model house as mine are are installing A/C in their garages so I will have thier knowlegde and experience to rely on as well. You know first hand how hot a garage can get during the South Florida summers.

No problem, Mike. I did a lot of planning for this project so it went off without a hitch. I have a great A/C pro who recommended the Daikin unit based on his personal experience. He installed the same model in his 3-car garage and has installed several in the area as well.
I'll send you the info on my unit this weekend. You'll need to consult with your installer on the final spec/sizing to ensure it's the right setup for your particular garage. I had my guy install an in-line condensate pump due to how I wanted to locate the indoor unit. It's a slick unit.

10-foot ceiling but if I was custom-building one I would make it 12 feet to accommodate a taller car with a 4-post lift at it's highest level. If you plan to install a 2-poster, check the minimum height ceiling for that particular lift as they require taller ceilings due to the cross member on top. Also, the concrete strength requirement is higher on a two poster since the posts must be anchored in the concrete securely.

Hello!!!
We know all about hot and cold shop spaces.
You can do insulation, fan here, fan there, duct fan there another duct fan there but that only get you so far. Your new setup is the only way to stay comfortable while working away.
Very nice and strait garage, as it should be. Great color on the C7 too!!!
Hope all is well.

Hey, Kohle! Great to hear from you. Hope all's well with you and the shop.
I sold the 853 heads you refreshed for me to a forum member last year and he made ~440 rwhp with them and a decent cam - significantly more than I did on my original setup. Nice job on those!
