That's one benefit of using Waze. On my road trip last week, Waze notified me of police ahead (more than a mile) and I made sure I was travelling close to the limit. I saw the officer in the median from about 600 yards but had no alert. When I got within 300 yards, they turned the laser on and my R3 went off. I would likely have been ticketed if I was speeding.
From what I've read, the only real defense to laser is a jammer like the AL Priority. This gives you time to get your speed down after the R3 alerts and then you shut off the jammer.
Fortunately, both are legal where I live.

I didn't. It was going a little up hill slope and by the time I saw him and the radar started to buzz, it was too late. He could pull me over but he didn't. I was lucky. Coming back from Vegas wasn't fun neither. We counted 9 LEOs from Primm to Barstow but the R3 did the job on all of them.

Guys, I'm reading about the Uniden R3 and I'm getting cross-eyed. Does the hardwire kit come with the R3 or is it a separate order piece?

It is a separate order piece - two in fact. The Blendmount is the hardware that attaches to the mirror and your detector hangs from. Then you'll need the mirror tap. Those are the wires and the plug. A little search on Amazon will take you to what you need. But here's what I bought for my 2018 Z06:

BLENDMOUNT INNOVATIVE MOUNTING SOLUTIONS
BlendMount BNR-2027 Corvette C7 Aluminum Radar Detector Mount for Uniden R1/R3. Patented Design - Made in USA - Looks Factory Installed

MIRRORTAP POWER CORDS
MirrorTap MTX-1010, RJ-11, 10" Long, Radar Detector Power Cord With 2 Amp In-Line Fuse, Military Grade Taps, Made in USA

It sounds like you've been doing some reading. Yes, the R3 has the best range. But everyone loves the arrows that the Escort has and I can see why. I just took an 1100 mile road trip and most of the time when the alarm went off I saw the LEO; but sometimes I didn't. Probably because they were on the other side of the highway. But it sure would have been nice to know for sure. From my understanding, Escorts patented arrows expire in 2020. I'll bet Uniden and the other companies will jump all over that. So I am hoping that my current hardware installation for the R3 will work with the next generation (R4?) where I will simply be able to just plug it in and go.
Also, you will need a usb cable to plug into your computer in order to update the firmware. It does not come with the R3. If you have decided on the R3 then PM me and I have a $15 discount code. Another forum member gave me his and so I will pass on the good karma. I bought it from Beachcamera.com. They have good reviews and I didn't have a problem with them at all. In fact, all the companies I did business with had awesome customer service in case I had a question. Good luck and keep us posted.

Hey Steven, here's a link to a post that I started that has some good info. I'm sure you've already watched the videos. There's two in particular: one is kind of a slide show and the other is about 20 minutes where he checks the voltage with his meter. That gentleman did quite a few extra steps that I avoided like taking off the big plastic five pin cover behind the mirror and/or separating the wire harness behind the mirror. I avoided both. Let me know if you have any more questions.

I bought the blendmount and the mirror taps and never could get them into the mirror, so I gave up. I use the detector only on trips and simply plug it in the 12v receptacle. Ugly but I seldom take the Vette on a road trip. And without a permanent mount I can take a trip in my DDr and usse the detector.

I see you're about an hour away from me. If you need help installing then let me know.

Thank you very much, Rob, but I have actually gotten used to the old fashioned plug in. Actually I drive the Vette very little for trips and pretty much stay within the speed limit these days. Comes with getting older I suppose. <g>

You mean you cannot get the tap into the connector? Too tight or you already broke the taps off? Just ask Blendmount and they will send you replacement taps for free.
I broke two taps as well. Then I purchased a dental pick and pried the connector to make room for the tap and it inserted in very easy and tight. Don't need to bend the taps down.

If Blendmount don't send you a replacement taps, PM me and I'll send you the extra taps that I've. The pick is only like $5.
