Smog check
Anyone know if during the emissions test the tech check for all working exterior lights. I forgot to do my smog check again and is already past due but my free time is limited.
I have the headlights completely out of the car and haven't been able to reinstall them. Do they check this stuff?
I know some states they go as far as looking into the suspension.

I don't think they care about the lights.

Correct, only things they do is a visual check to see if there are any aftermarket parts, and then plug in the OBD2 reader and run their tests.
And while were on the topic of smog check, anybody ever have problems with the air pump system not finishing its cycle? The system is not bad, no check engine light, and the pump works, but it says the system is incomplete. Any information could help. The battery did die about a couple months ago, and since then I have driven the car at least 200+ miles, I would have thought the system parameters would have reset by now.

A smog check is just that - a smog check. It's not like in some other states where they do a full vehicle inspection. Back in DE, they would check for functioning blinkers, brake lights, headlights, etc.

Seeing other states do full inspection is exactly what confused me. Truthfully they should do a full inspection here, I've seen trucks on the road with crooked frames but I wonder if they still claim as clean title.

In addition to the check engine light (cel) there are monitors that must be set. I know that the evap monitor does not need to be set and it is possible that on some cars you can also have one other but for sure most have to be set
if they are not, you will not necessarily have a cel but you will not pass.
exterior lights are irrelevant. As are other lights on the dash (traction control, abs, tps, etc).
