Default White CHP Camaro got me

I always had the (mistaken) notion that my daily driver Nissan Altima with no spoiler or spats and in a conservative Pewter color would not attract the attention of the CHP. WRONG, wrong, wrong especially since radar doesn't care if you have a plain jane car or your Torch Red C5. Anyway the Camaro was parked by the side of the road at the bottom of a bridge in Napa. I crest the bridge and see the Camaro immediately and know what it is. He said he saw me stand the Altima on its nose getting down to the legal limit (60). I admitted to 70 (I was going at least 80 when I crested the bridge); he said he caught me at 75. He also said if I had said 65 he would have written me up for 75, a difference he said of approx $300 in fines, etc. He wrote it for 70. I was respectful, he was respectful and except for the ticket had a good adult conversation. Its been 10-12 years since my last ticket (except for a fix-it on the C5 for tint and front plate) so traffic school for me. I hear the online schools are the way to go - any suggestions? Live and learn :o

Online traffic school is the way to go. You can move at your own pace, stop and come back later and passing the exam is easy. The are several of the out there.

Every one of your vehicles should be equipped with a good radar detector and laser jammer. As far as traffic school, you complete most of it online, but still need to stop by your local UPS or Mail Boxes, etc store to take a quick written test. I know this because my radar detector was unplugged one day and........

Gottaticket.com

It'll take you 20 minutes, easy as pie, and is as cheap as anything else out there.

I've used them twice.

Since when? I did mine online, and they mail the proof to the court for you. You just have to show up at the court and pay the fine. This was in fall 2002, but I'm not aware of any changes since then. It may depend on your county. I know some states don't allow online traffic school.

I just completed mine a few months ago, so they may be cracking down on cheaters/substitute test-takers, etc.

I did the home study course a while back, and it was a breeze, took about 20 minutes. Basically the test was sentences out of the book with a word missing that you had to fill in.

The next time, I did the online version, took about 4 hours, as they make you spend a certain amount of time on each page before you can go to the next...it sucked.

I did the online thing too... It was easy... Especially since I got my ticket doing 80+ down in San Diego. Lucky me, I think I blew past the guy going 100. I never even saw him.

Don't become too dependent on your radar detector. The CHP has several cars on I-15 without any radar. They have gone back to good ol' pacing from behind.

I guess they figured out many people with detectors stopped watching the rear view mirror!

If you are going to exceed the limit, you have to use your eyes and mirrors as well as the detector.

Agreed. I was coming back from Palm Springs a few months back and went around a sweeper pretty fast. CHP was waiting there and the V1 was pegged on the Ka band. He said he had me at 93.
