Texas front licence plate
Texas Transportation Code:
The following is a copy of amendment 502.010, eliminating the necessity of a front number plate here in Texas.
I cannot find any confirmation that it was passed, and is now the law. I will visit the Denton County Tax Office tomorrow to try to get confirmation.
Does anyone out there have any information regarding this Amendment?
ARTICLE 9. REDUCTION IN NUMBER OF LICENSE PLATES ISSUED
SECTION 9.01. Subchapter A, Chapter 502, Transportation
Code, is amended by adding Section 502.010 to read as follows:
Sec. 502.010. ISSUANCE AND DISPLAY OF LICENSE PLATE. (a)
Notwithstanding anything in this code to the contrary, including
Section 502.180, the department shall issue only one license plate
for attachment at the rear of the vehicle for which the plate is
issued.
(b) Notwithstanding anything in this code to the contrary,
including Section 502.404(a), a person is entitled to operate on a
public highway a vehicle that displays only one license plate if the
plate is attached at the rear of the vehicle. A person may operate
on a public highway a vehicle that displays two license plates if
both plates were assigned by the department for the registration
period as a set of plates.
(c) In any provision of this code that relates to the
issuance or display of "license plates," "plates," or a "set of
plates," the term means only one license plate.
SECTION 9.02. The change in law made by this article
regarding the issuance of license plates by the Texas Department of
Transportation applies only to the issuance of license plates by
the department for a registration period beginning on or after the
effective date of this article. For a registration period that
begins before the effective date of this article, the department
shall issue license plates as required by the law in effect
immediately before the effective date of this article, and the
former law is continued in effect for that purpose.
SECTION 9.03. This article takes effect November 1, 2005.

Cars 25 years and older qualify for the antique tag; you then use one plate from the year of manufacture of your car, and don't run a front plate. You screw the little metal tag you get on one of the bolt holes of the rear plate. Registration lasts for 5 years, so you save about $200 bucks over the course of the 5 years.

In that case does anyone know where I can get a 76 Texas Tag?

Antique tags are very limited on how you are to use your car. Basically you are to only drive it in parades or some special interest event. You might want to consider a Classic" tag instead, still costs a little but you are not limited on how and where you drive.

All politicians suck eggs… We need to keep a better watch on the morons we elect to public office.
First problem is we elect lawyers…biggest conflict of interest on the planet.
Here’s another example: http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/03/308.asp
I would be willing to help organize a coalition of car clubs to communicate our wishes and concerns to our beloved state representatives. I’m a member of The North Texas Corvette Club. Anyone else interested in presenting our views as one big voice?

Go for it! Time for action.
Unfortunately, as you point out most legislators are lawyers, which make them on a par with used car salesmen.

I would suggest leaving well enough alone. Last thing someone need is to be all jazzzed up and get the LEO's to start enforcing it. I use the Dallas Tollway all the time - State DPS, so it is heard, are the worst for tickets for no front plate. I've passed dozens of them and NOTHING. I even eat sometimes and 3 DPS cars will park next to and across from me. One even said, nice car! I smiled and said thanks. No hassles from DPS anyway.

DPS troopers around the College Station area are notorious for writing "no front plate" tickets (don't ask me how I know ). Whenever I go on a road trip, I put the front plate up in the windshield, on the passenger side.
