Default Racing helmets in DFW

Does anyone know of a place local to Dallas area or surrounding areas that sell automotive racing helmets that are under $200?

You should be able to find something at any motorcycle dealership or store...

That's where I got mine....

be sure that the sanctioning body for the event you plan to run accepts a helmet with a Motorcycle rating

that is, a Snell M2000 or M2005

there is a different rating for helmets intended to be worn in cars

Snell SA2000 or SA 2005

don't know about pricing, but any decent road racing shop (not drag race or speed shop) should have a few in stock

best bet is to order from a dealer you trust or to surf the net

lots of decent deals out there now on SA2000 rated now that the 2005 helmets are out

I am looking for an SA2005 rated helmet, I know I can get away with the M rating for drag racing, but I do plan on doing more HPDE's in the future and I know its bothersome when I have to rent or borrow a helmet. I was looking online and Bell has the best price for what I want, but you can only order direct from their store, I really would like to see how it feels on my head before I commit to purchase.

Thanks,

On the serious side right now I use my closed face motorcycle helmet which is M2000 however I'll need one rated for car use for some track events.

I've heard of a place called Smileys(sp?) in DFW that has track stuff. You can also try Bobby Archers place near downtown Fort Worth 817-877-1772.

Another option is Day Motorsports in Tyler (daymotorsports.com). Don't know if they do direct purchase since I've only odered through the net or by phone. I will say that their customer service has been excellent with next day delivery and others have said they are prompt with exchanges.

Full Face Black Bell helmet at Pep Boys for $100. Not sure if it's certified for what you want....but it's pretty nice looking.

I dunno if they MAKE a decent SA2000 or 2005 helmet for less than $200.

BUT years ago the parts department for the Legends series at TMS used to carry G-Force SA rated helmets and they were pretty cheap. You might call TMS and ask for the Lone Star Legends Series Parts Dept.

Simpson also used to have an outlet at their factory in New Braunfels just off I-35.

I bought mine through www.saferacer.com. Quick service and delivery.

Have bought a lot of stuff with them and have never been unhappy.
