I could get long winded about that comment but its not worth it. When I was 18, my job was a mechanic/inspector. Id like to think i know a few things about vettes, and autos in general....

I have long tubes and got my car inspected in Austin last April. They told me as long as it was throwing no codes and the cats were present, it was fine. I had to have it re-inspected in May as I noticed the maroons at the shop put the stickers on wrong, making it look like it expered in August of 04 rather than April of 08. Passed that time too.

I know a guy who just bought a vette in Vegas, drives it down here with LG long tubes, no cats, Limo tint all around.
Inspector: "Sorry sir, you have no cats and your window tint is too dark, this car won't pass and I shouldn't be telling you this."
The guy gets in his car and moves it out of the way to park and get on the phone to get hi-flow cats and find a place to get the windows re-done to specs.
Inpector walks up . . . "If you really need your car inspected today, I can get it done for $120 . . .
My friend says "Go for it, dude" Inspected and passed.
Cheers,
Pat

Even though there are some work-arounds for getting inspected with no cats, dark tint, I hear State Troopers are very hard on folks with dark tint and no cats. Anyone out there with an experience like this?
These cars are cop magnets as it is and we just don't need the hassle of LEOs checking the tint or if we have CATs or not.
Cheers,
Pat

This was my truck. Pacesetter longtubes, offroad Y pipe and 3" Magnaflow exhaust. Not to mention, 6.0L with a 224/224 cam, 3000 stall and a built transmission that would back it up. Needless to say, I was pulled over in that truck more times than I could count on both hands - never one mention about my exhaust or lack of cats. The inspection(Houston area) of it was difficult, but not impossible. They popped the hood and saw long tubes, got on their hands and knees and traced the exhaust all the way back looking for cats. I still got a sticker

I'm pretty sure I'll be installing mine tomorrow, Friday... As far as tunes go, I decided on a Predator handheld; we'll see how the tuner works, if I don't like it I may sell it and visit Corey.

I just did an inspection for my company car and asked if they do emissions testing, they say that they do. They handed me a sheet that looked a lot like a OBDII print out when they finished with the car. There is a charge for an emissions test for my company car as well (I didn't pay for it, so that's no sweat).

Is this a bunch of BS and I should take my Vette now that my CO plates are expired? Or do i need to get some cats?

That EPA crap is just too damn funny. If you really read it, any vehicle that is specifically for off road use, if it originally came with cats, it has to have them on it. That sure does put the drag racing and pretty much all racing cars out of commission if they follow the letter of the law. What a bunch of dung!! Be sure to read the part about engine mods and changes. If it wasn't offered in the car from the factory, it is ILLEGAL!! Just too funny!! Now to see them enforce it!

Put on High flow cats and the headers [ good ones ] come with AIR bungs and Oxygen Sensor bungs which most cars need anyway.
The fines are pretty stiff [ 10,000 for illeagal sticker ] and your ride can go to the pound [ like forever ] if you run across the right cop.
The previous owner of my Hot Rod lost it for 7 months and spent 15,000 $ on lawyers , bond, fines, tickets and pound fees.
Make an effort to conform , you will sleep easier and not sweat bullets.
Mine stays away from the city while I'm gone so I can sign the form saying it can't be operated in the big city over ten days in a thirty day period and be legal.
That is it stays in a county that does not have the emmissions inspection and gets inspection done there.
My brothers garage cause my Stock Red 95 stays in my garage along with junk and motorcycle.
It's good to have relatives willing to run your car every week [ just to keep the battery up of course] LOL.
I hope this keeps someone out of trouble.

There (possible high school dropouts) are certified mechanics who are also state certified to inspect vehicles at the dealership are pulling in $70K+/year. I'll bet a few of them OWN Vettes they work on.
