train tragedy

This was a sad day for our community! We are praying for the Veterans and their families. I am headed to donate this morning as the local radio stations have set up an account for the families. I just don't understand how this could happen!

"Avid Fan" will probably post up soon... In a parade you are "trapped" between the floats in front of and behind you... With that and not wanting to run over the band / float in front of you can only hope to get a chance to get off the tracks .... Very sad ....

The Corvettes in the parade are owned by members of the Permian Basin Corvette Club. We are asked to participate in numerous parades through out West Texas. This is absolutely our favorite one.
Once the Heroes and their companions arrive at the Horseshoe for dinner it's such a humbling experience to meet them, shake their hands, and thank them for their sacrifices.
That's not a Corvette friendly crossing, so we have to go from 2-abreast formation to a staggered formation to get the right angle for air dams and carbon fiber splitters
I never heard the train horn. We had such a huge police escort with sirens blaring and as we slowed to prepare to cross the track I was right next to a police car. The first I realized a train was coming was when I saw the crossing arms come down on the people sitting on the trailer. The media makes it sound like the train T-boned the trailer. Look at the pictures of the trailer on myfoxdfw and you'll see it clipped the right rear corner causing the trailer to be swung abruptly to the left.
Please keep everyone in your prayers.

Thanks for the first hand account. I got the call in class last night and was just sickened by the news. As a vet myself, I feel especially close to these people. I don't have words to express my feelings for them today.
May God take care of all those involved.
