Default What are the exempt smog laws

Looking at moving out to AZ unless something better pops up sometime next 90 days at the most

How do their smog checks operate?
What is exempt....assuming my 67 Camino would be (sure hope so!)

02 Silverado?

Can I mod that, or grab a C4 perhaps and build it up?

Not sure what city yet wont be in Phoenix though

ps what about home protection.....also any cities that are known to be high cime, areas to stay away from?

Hoping to road trip it out there fora few days to look around. Probably rent for a few mos til I can find something I want to buy.

Only Maricopa and Pima County require smog testing. And no, your Elk is not exempt, it's 1967 and newer.

As far as crime goes, it's tough....I lived all over Phoenix, and had issues just about everywhere, though worse in the rough neighborhoods. I'd definitely do a thorough recon before buying...

Tucson is pretty bad all over, as it's a pass-through city (from Mexico).

Classic policy does exempt. Either way it is easy to pass.

When you say not Phoenix, you mean not anywhere in or around Phoenix, or just not Phoenix itself. I'm in Gilbert and it is great. Love it here. Best place I've lived. I have several retired relatives in Chandler.

Tucson is pretty much a **** hole, but some of the outskirts are ok like Oro Valley, etc.

Payson, Sedona, Flag, etc are nice. Some areas get snow though, so that sucks if you don't like winter.

I would say no good racing/car scene, compared to anywhere else I've lived. Then again it depends on what you like. If it is sitting in a parking lot waxing your car, it maybe ok. I'm not into that. Racing scene is ok, not that good, not horrible.

The good racing events are the omega 1/2 mile (if into straight line). There is a few road course places, but the tracks are not that good, and weather makes them rough a good portion of the year. So it depends on what type of racing you are into.

Only good drag racing IMO is private rentals down in Tucson.

last time I was at that track was in 99? seemed the elevation or DA killed power, remember my DD felt dead slow out there.

Seemed like unless someone had a blower or BB was hard to break 12s
Stupid question but noticed no matter where the homes are every house has a security screen on the front door

Is that because its hot and helps with flow through or is the crime just that bad everywhere?

Thanks for answering.

My house didn't have one, and most in my hood don't. I added one because when the weather is nice 9 months out of the year it is great to have a nice flow through the house.

For crime, most people just use a 40 or 45.

Been hearing a lot about drugs/crime/meth heads in areas I wouldnt expect to have that issue. Is it really that bad out there, planning on coming out soon but dont want to waste a trip.
Spoke to a Dr I know, his vacation home in Flaggstaff is up for sale due to all the tweakers out there, thought that was a decent place?

I travel all over the country, and AZ is one of the nicest safest least drug areas of anywhere I go. That **** is everywhere, so unless you plan to move to the moon or mars, you can always find someone to complain about that.

Sahuarita is decent, and not far from Tucson, however, like Marana, it has a lot of meth-crime. Not all of Tucson is horrible, but like anywhere, what you pay for rent/mortgage is usually equal to how rough the neighborhood is.

A buddy that was the best man in my wedding 40 years ago is retired from Delta and lives down there- my younger son stayed in Tucson after going to U of A and really likes the Tucson vibe- especially in the historic district.

As a car guy, I think you'd like the East Valley of Phoenix more- Gilbert and Queen Creek are reasonable- we're out in Fountain Hills just east of Scottsdale and enjoy the views and the lack of congestion.

Payson is nice - - Prescott is better IMO with a cool old territorial courthouse on the town square and Whiskey Row....big Corvette Show late September every year. Flag is laid back- gets lots of snow - - Prescott only gets a little and both are much cooler than Phoenix. Property skyrocketing out in Buckeye with the new Highway 11 corridor up to Vegas but that's a great reason not to live that direction or anywhere near the Air Force base.

Good luck-

Personally, I'd shy away from the two big cities, unless you really need the urban environment. I really like Paulden for example, but even that is getting expensive now....

Property skyrocketing out in Buckeye
noticed that, what was 130k 6 mos ago is now 180k really dont want to be in the middle of a bubble

Congestion, traffic and cookie cutter homes 10 ft away from eachother is what I want away from

Friend bought a fixer on 5 acres in Florence, seemed happy about it.
Said it was pretty rural, quiet lots of L.E. around

Few weeks back found a couple tweakers on his roof stealing toold, his AC ripped off and last night his truck stolen out of his driveway in 1 mo. I dont know man...where do you go anymore.
