DFW illegal tint... Front windshield tint Q's!
I am about to have my GS tinted in an illegal manner. I want 5% On the back and sides and 50% on the front windshield. I'm curious if anyone in the metroplex has their windshield tinted and what you have done with the registration sticker to minimize raising Johnny Laws eyebrows. The car just passed inspection and has been registered so I have a new sticker coming in the mail.
My brother lives in OKC and had his SS Camaro tinted this way and it looked sick.
Thanks,
Steve

my opinion, I wouldn't do it... but you can either cut out an area for the sticker or put clear tape on the adhesive side of the sticker and use clear tape on the other side to hold it to the windshield

You can tint over the sticker. You will probably have to remove the tint next year for the state inspection, Just do this every year.

bro. just don’t put on the sticker. your tinted windshield will be obvious enough if you put a charcoal style film on it. state trooper will make you peel that on the side of the road if he feels like it. why lose the sticker too?
i have wincos on my windshield, but it is hardly noticeable. i do not run a sticker for they pull that immediately with the plate anyways. civil disobedience.

OK, here is the deal in Texas. go to your optometrist and get him/her to document in a letter that your eyesight requires some additional tinting due to some concern. not sure exactly how the letter must be done.
If you can get that letter and you jump through a few hoops with the state, you do just about as much as you want. just keep the document from the state in your car.
Is that morally correct, prolly not if it is not a legit eye issue -- is the reason I have not done it. with my eye issues might be able to in a few years legitimately. But If you want to give it a shot, the law allows it. If your eye doc will do it, it is on them.

I understand there is a UV/lowE clear tint that is available which keeps the interior temps down with the advantage of being clear for the windshield. Your tint shop should be able to get the information and install. Tinted windshields are obviously very dark at night and i would think hinder your night vision.

I've had multiple cars with the front windshield tinted. state inspection places didn't even bat an eye.
never been pulled over for it either. most people don't even notice.

Those in the DFW area, any issues with passing inspection with darker than 35% on the side windows? I need to get my tint redone & want to go at least 20% all the way around.

However I was having trouble backing into my driveway at night sometimes even with the front windows down. LED reverse lights is an absolute must before a dark tint job.

I'm not concerned with backing up, my reverse lights already have blackout covers on them. I just use my side mirrors & backup camera.

some inspectors check it and some don't, an easy way around it is to roll the windows down and pull the window fuse/relay so they won't roll back up... side window operation is not an inspection requirement... I just think tinting the windshield is not a good idea and that is a dead giveaway to cops, most would let the side windows slide but once they see the front windshield is tinted they may throw the book at you so to speak

New window tints now have ceramic films that are basically clear that can block out 45%-50% heat with a clear film. Look into it.
I know Invisible the clear bra business offers this to their clients. just fyi.

I have Llumar Air90 on the windshields of all my cars and Air80 on the factory tinted SUV glass. Functional without being illegal or dangerous.

I wasn't referring to the shade, I was referring to the amount of total heat the film can block out for a relatively clear window film. I've put it on my cars and it's pretty amazing for such a light tint. I love it.

The clear high heat rejection with a spot for the sticker is what we have on the TBSS windshield. I recommend it if your wanting the UV protection and heat rejection. I wouldn't bother with any tinting though.

Guys: The % number represents the amount of light that PASSES through the film. 50% is hardly noticable, 5% (Limo tint) is super dark. I have 50% ceramic on all of my windshields. In Texas heat, you can get in your car and put your hand on your black dashboard. Can't do that without film or a shade that you have to put up every time you park.
Regarding tinting the windshield, remove your tag sticker, have it tinted with 50% and install the sticker over the tint. Each year, you can peel the sticker off and replace it without removing the tint. If you cut the tint around the sticker, it will be very obvious that it's tinted with film.
In Texas, you are allowed 70% on the windshield. The device that's used with police (and inspection stations) clips on to the glass so that they can shoot light through the film and get a readout of the % rating. Not possible to test back windows or windshields...so there's really no way for them to prove that it's darker than 70%.
