Looking for some travel advice...
My wife has been back on her favorite whine: "When are we ever going on another road trip"? She claims she has a need to visit Taos, New Mexico. I suspect she really means she wants to visit Roswell (don't laugh, she named our cat" Roswell", and made me take her to Area 51 during the last trip to Las Vegas).
She's also a fan of "red rocks" not the concert venue, but places with reddish rocks. Like Bryce and Zion and the Grand Canyon, all of which we've done already.
As wonderful as our C6 is for road trips I'm kinda thinking of flying into Las Vegas, renting a car and then plotting a trip to places like Monument Valley and other places in the area. Isn't there a place called "The Arches" and a few other spots we could visit on a circular route back to Las Vegas?
Is Taos and Roswell out of the question owing to distance? What's interesting about Taos anyway? It's like an art colony or something, right? I know why she wants to see Roswell.
Am I thinking I might be doing such a trip in say over 2 or 3 days? Am I being too conservative? After all, we once did Yellowstone Park in 90 minutes owing to the lack of reddish rocks.
Any ideas or thoughts? When's the best time of year to go?
Thanks

I'll second Sedona. Head down Oak Creek Canyon from Flagstaff. When you've seen all the sights to see, head south the Cottonwood then to Jerome. Then go over Mingus Mountain to Prescott Valley.
Driving Mingus Mountain makes my trips home worthwhile.

Hey Phil,
I’m glad to see that the Man has lifted your travel restrictions and you’re now allowed to leave the state.
Did you have to promise to not associate with Walter anymore?
Let me know if you make it down to AZ. We can discuss what type of rain tires to use here in the desert and other pertinent Corvette issues.

She'd probably like Santa Fe better.

Walter and I aren't talking to each other anymore since his dog, Buffy, bit me on my thumb. I'm working with the (REDACTED) to see if the Special Forces could use a poodle in Afghanistan err, Florida. Key West actually. Yes, that's right, Key West. Where you hinted that that was where you and Gayle were moving. (Is that close to Sedona (FL) from Key West?
Actually I'm getting some pretty good info to my thread. Nobody seems to have any advice for Taos or Roswell though.

Well, don't know how much time you have but here's some suggestions. Since I'm in OKC, I came from the other direction. Stopped in Amarillo for a day or so and took in Palo Duro Canyon and the play they put on there. Worth it but the play (Texas) only takes place during the summer months. We stayed in Taos for 3 days and took sight seeing trips to various places. Lots of interesting things to see there. Make sure you take in Red River. Not that far from Taos and great roads for a Vette. Lots of turns and curves. After we left there, we went to Roswell and took in some of the UFO stuff. It was fun. Carlsbad is nice to see if you've never been there. (Tip: if you go to Carlsbad, get reservations ahead of time. There's an oil boom going on there and good luck finding a place to stay). Another place to take in if you have time is the Inn of The Mountain Gods. Absolutely gorgeous and reasonably priced. They have a casino there too if that's your thing. It's close to Riodosa (where they have the famous quarter horse races). My sis lives in Hobbs so I'm pretty familiar with NM. It's def worth a trip to look things over.

Some good advice coming out of this. Very helpful. Thank you all.
Since we plan to visit Las Vegas, It looks like Sedona is close and much recommended. So, as a start, it looks like we'll fly into LV, spend a night or two there, rent a car and drive to Sedona. Try to figure out where to go from there and then return to Vegas to beg for our money back (they do offer that for tourists, don't they?) and then hitchhike back home. Do they allow hitchhikers on the runway at McCarran?
So, the remaining questions are when to visit within the next 3 months or less. And how long to stay and what to see between Sedona and LV?
This exchange has been helpful. Thanks all!
