For the sixth year, my local club will be holding it's annual car show, Austin Corvette Day, on Saturday, September 15th. This event benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central Texas and last year raised $20K for the charity to use to fulfill wishes for terminally ill children.

Event information and registration forms are available on the club's webpage at www.longhorncorvette.com and follow the "Austin Corvette Day" link.

There's a discount for registrations received before August 1st. Discounted hotel rooms are available, please see the registration form for additional information.

I also had a great time last year! Got a great deal on a set of chrome y2k rims for my '98 pewter coupe from Discount Tire! (Oh wait! Was it Tire Rack? Sorry!) Anyway, I have my new(er) '00 pewter coupe to show off this year. I'll be there and will register this month!

Do you have to be a Longhorn Corvette Club member to participate? I tried to find something about that on the web page before but didn't find the information...

I will be there. Will bring the 97 car up. That's the carshow in cooperation with the barbecue place right? I'm sure you don't have to be a member to show a car there. Need details of time, directions etc.

Snowman, Chris

You don't have to be a member of LCC to participate in the show. The only problem is there is only space for approximatly 300 cars in the combined parking lots of the 3 restaurants and space gets tight the closer to the show date it gets.

The show runs from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturday Sept 15. Rain date is Sept 16. The show is located at Rudy's BBQ on Research Blvd (HWY 183) in Austin TX. More info is on our web site www.longhorncorvette.com.

Looking forward to seeing you guys there.

If you just want to be a spectator,is Park and Ride the only way to get tot he site?

3M Mike,

Yep, parking for spectators is at the Park and Ride lot. There will be shuttle busses running between Rudy's and the Park and Ride.

I'm sending in my application and fee money today. You can print out the form on the club site.

See you there.

I have enjoyed the show in the past but a little worried about the DPS setting up shop and writing tickets like the did in Round Rock.

I wasn't able to get the website to come up so I could register. Is the link wrong or is the website down?

I just checked the web site and it does not work. I'll give the webmaster grief tonight when I see him at the Austin Corvette Day Committee meeting.

Drop me an e-mail with your address and I'll send one by snail mail. I'll also try to get the electronic form from the webmaster so I can e-mail it.

I don't know what to say about the DPS ticketing cars at car events. I can't promise it won't happen. We haven't had a problem in the past. The tickets aren't moving violations so they don't appear on your driving record.

Since this is sponsored by local merchant and all for fun, I doubt they would do a mass ticketting. They MIGHT, however, be watchin for the occasional burnout as people leave. :D

I was amazed that there weren't more tickets given when we used to meet out at the Antique Mall in Round Rock. AND I know they have been a PIA at times where our Vette friends have gathered too. They'd get me for no Cats, no front plate and who knows what else.

Doug
