BEWARE OF brooksz07 - SCAMMER ALERT
I posted a WTB for a transparent roof in the classifieds here and he inquired. He offered it for $1,000 shipped off his ZO6. He wanted to pay with google pay and I'm not super familiar with it but everything looked legit. He even sent a pic of a piece of paper with his screen name on the roof proving that he had the roof in his possession. I sent him the money via google pay and he kept texting me still that the roof was going to be shipped out then he just went silent. He's located in LA apparently. Name is Kelly Brooks per is Google pay account but I'm sure that's bogus.
What can I do to get my money back? I immediately opened a fraud claim before the charge even went through with google but they've been no help up to this point... Same with my bank.

Sorry for your misfortune! The first thing I always do is look at the history of the seller. This seller only been a member less than a month and 2 weeks to be exact and only two posts and that will always be my warning sign to beware.
The forum I believe have sent me notices or warnings when I pm with new members to be careful.
Good Luck and I wish you the best in recovering and thanks for sharing.

Contact Google Pay - Im guessing but there has to be a way for them to track where the money went, and how to handle folks that scam others.
I also agree, call the police in his local area. I did that years ago to a guy who took me for $6500 on EBay - they showed up and miraculously he was able to "find" the money he owed me. The cops watched him wire me the money or they were taking him to jail...pretty powerful when you cant be there to handle yourself.
Sad that is how some people are today...sorry this happened to you. Good luck!

Damn...I looked at his profile and he had joined the forum less than a month. I also noticed that he only had two posts and no thank you's.
I have bought lots of things here on the forum and never had a problem, but after reading your back and forth with him it sound legit. Does Google Pay have any info on him in the system like PayPal does.

Sorry to hear about your issues. Be persistent and you should be able to get your money back at least. Did Google Pay open up a dispute for you on this? It should be fairly straight forward to get your funds back if no tracking info was provided and seller can't show that it was shipped/rec'd by you.

I tried to cancel it within 2 days of all this happening and Google couldn't do anything until it posted from my account. I'm working with them too trying to get this recovered.
Thanks!

Apparently Google pay only allows you to pay through a debit card and no credit card. I'm working with my bank to but I I'm not sure if they're going to be able to do anything.
thank you for the advice I'll certainly do that!
multiple people were messaging me about the roof and I got mixed up and thought he was 1 that had over 200 post. I didn't realize it until middle of last week

He probably waited a couple days for your debit to be transferred to his account and then started ignoring you.
ALWAYS use a credit card.... It's so much easier to dispute.
I'll avoid anything that isn't paypal like venmo, google pay, etc just because paypal disputes are much easier to file.

I feel you. This guy tried to scam me too.
I also posted a WTB targa top ad. He responded with some pics that I later found were taken from a seller on eBay. I called him out on that and things went south. He started calling me a scammer. LOL. Oddly enough, all the responses he made on my WTB ad have been mysteriously erased.
Like you, he wanted me to pay with Google Pay. He went into this long soliloquy about how Google Pay is more secure than PayPal, blah blah, blah. I bet he copies and pastes his Google Pay vs. PayPal rant to all potential victims.
And as a heads up, posting a piece of paper next to the item for sale doesn't indicate the seller has the item. I think you can use Photoshop to pull off this imagery.
I reported him to forum moderator Steven Bell. I suggest you do the same so that another forum member won’t become subject to his scams.
Good luck with getting your $$$$ back.
